Lunar Guide:

7 of Wands

Sometimes, I call this the Samuel L. Jackson card...because, it kind of “wishes a motherfucker would.” It's a little testy, stabby and edgy. It usually isn't an ANGRY type of testy but one that is surely cocked to show itself or prove itself in some way. You may feel defiant, rebellious or spiteful. It's all energy. And this card packs a lot of it. Key being, how you choose to use that energy and how humbly you can hold it in respect of its power. Full of yourself or of spite means you could be disrespecting what could be produced beneficially of this type of power. You could be focusing too closely on egoic ambition.

This card stands best in defense of something important and fights only for things that will make a big difference to a lot of people. It is not well focused on self-serving acts. While traveling with this card, we find ourselves at an advantage over others. It would be foolish to give that up in way that risks our own advancement and that of our troop members.

You could be currently facing a solo performance; but, it still feeds into the whole show with repercussions threatening to impact more than just you. Avoid collateral damage. The grand agenda is to remain humble and to refrain from making it all about you. Also avoid the temptation to go at everything with Herculean or super hero effort. You have the wind at your back. If a threat emerges, you have the power to knock it down. You are allowed to have confidence in that and yourself. But, don't go looking for trouble or feel that you have anything to prove. Deal with what you need to and keep a look out for trouble or competition. Be aware. Defend your position without drawing too much attention to yourself.

7's are about having made some progress and emerging with prowess. They challenge our moral fortitude and sense of adhering to goal or purpose. The atmosphere can feel quite charged with energy, ambition, anxiety or vigor. One of the challenges of the card is that our values are challenged. We've risen and been given a boost or charge of passion and ambition. Has that overcharged our egos to the point that we have become greedy or lost our sense of purpose? Under this card's guidance, we are likely to find out and are encouraged to explore what tends to drive or motivate us during these times. Mercury and Venus in retrograde advise us that self-reflection could lead to a change in our personal tastes or values.

Here we may have to breathe through impulses and urges while making sure we do not self-destruct, take action prematurely or impulsively. Focus, grounding, balance and a solid platform from which to operate are of huge benefit. Stay mindfully engaged and focused knowing that there is likely going to a piece of you that is so pent up and ready to go that it really does kind of “wish a motherfucker would” or give you an excuse to just let some of it out. Resist that motherfucker. Maintain conscious control of your own movements. Find something to take the “top off” the energy, so that it is easier to maintain. We can feed off the intensity in the atmosphere around us; but, we also need to remain in control of our own moves and aware of our own motivations/goals. Stand your ground. But, know what you stand for.

Full Moons are excellent for removing obstacles and blocks. This one is particularly geared for an exploration of the emotional and personal shadow/fear realm in effort to assess what motivates us prior to taking action. Once we discover what is truly important to us we are encouraged to use our position to our advantage and to exert our passions in a way that aligns with our goals while also supporting an end vision that benefits others in some way. It is from stabilization of ourselves within that focus that allows us to perceive of what challenges we may be up against next, decide our personal boundaries for battle and focus in on what it is that needs to removed from our paths forward.

Key words: at an advantage, pick your battles, let your reputation precede you, one step in front of the competition, spoiling for a fight, full of spite or blind aggression, defiance, on the defense, maintain your position, drawing competition, sharpened physical skills, wind at your back, wisdom, insight, self-awareness, confidence, building energy/excitement/drama, intense desires

Symbolism:

Sabian (Rudhyar) for the Moon at 28 Cancer:

AN INDIAN GIRL INTRODUCES HER WHITE LOVER TO HER ASSEMBLED TRIBE. KEYNOTE: Inner rebirth through a total acceptance of the primordial values manifest in the human body and its natural functions.

Even as this symbol was formulated in the clairvoyant’s mind, a few individuals belonging to the American intelligentsia were trying to find in their absorption into the culture of the Indian pueblos of the Southwest a solution to their intellectual artificiality and personal emotional emptiness. Fifty years later this process has gained great momentum, especially among the disenchanted youth of our affluent middle class. The soul — or in Jungian terms, the “anima”— is leading the sophisticated and colorless (white!) intellect to a level of consciousness at which man can again operate in tune with the vast process of the biosphere and recover the simplicity and the inner peace which city life and business deny. At this third stage of the twenty-fourth five-fold sequence the situations presented in the two preceding symbols can be seen combined and projected into a possibility of dramatic transformation. What is shown here is an emotional and warm commitment to the RETURN TO NATURE which today appeals so strongly to the new generation, but which Jean Jacques Rousseau, many great Romanticists and Gauguin long ago advocated and exemplified.

Sabian (Rudhyar) for the Sun at 28 Capricorn:

A LARGE AVIARY.

KEYNOTE: The enjoyment of spiritual values by the soul able to familiarize itself with their implications.

Birds symbolize spiritual forces, and the aviary presents us with a picture of these forces or desires contained within a mind open to the light of psychic or Soul realities, and bringing joy and harmony to the consciousness. The strenuous ascent represented by the preceding scene changes into a picture of familiarity with inspiring experiences. Yet this familiarity may also suggest a lack of spontaneity and of the thrill of discovery. To use modern terms, the peak experiences have become those of a high plateau, at which level one may lose one’s sense of direction at times. This is the third stage in the sixtieth sequence of phases which lead to group mastery of cosmic energies. The youthful effort to reach the summits of cultural and spiritual attainment has settled down into a complex state of inspiration — a state which at times may bring confusion because of the multiplicity of the voices to which one has become open. One may speak here of CLAIRAUDIENCE, meaning a capacity for being responsive to many inner voices.

Chandra (Lonsdale) symbol for the Moon at 28 Cancer:

A tremendous cave on the bank of a river.

Inwardly knowing where to go, what to do, how to do it, and where it all leads. You have a special faculty for karmic clairvoyance or sensing the individual and collective destiny-territory that must be navigated through. Placed strategically in the molten core of world dilemma to remember how to get it right. Driven by a force of will that is overwhelming. You are guided to be in the right place at the right time for catching the drift of the tide we all are swimming toward. Unconsciously and superconsciously in touch and in tune with what is happening. Consciously, walking a tightrope between the heights and the depths, and never sure while being sure. Given an engraved destiny invitation to participate to the utmost in collective cycles of renewal and to stay within your place of power throughout. For you have gathered considerable awareness toward this time of decision, and this vertical attunement is a welcome ingredient--one vitally needed.

Chandra (Lonsdale) symbol for the Sun at 28 Capricorn:

A mirror covered with a fine film of dust.

Making a place for everything in reaction to previous rigidities. Encouraging all facets to run wild. You are held within a witnessing posture that must balance the cosmic equation. A fabulous array of distortions become possible, including hiding from yourself everywhere in opposites and reversals. Exceedingly adept at using consciousness falsely, for power or control, for hidden purposes or out of strange curiosity. Most radically prone to playing out patterns or syndromes that you are convinced will soon be taken away, so must be binged upon first. Strange spiritual notions and ideologies. You need to drop the vast bulk of your voluminous self-indulgences in order to, after all, start to wake up and really remember purpose and the whole story, free from self-vindication and equally, self-condemnation
