New Moon in Pisces 2021: The Storyteller and the Illusionist

I've underestimated how much power resides in storytelling. However, if I've learned anything at all from the past few years, it is that the mind which creates the most captivating story line holds tremendous power. The mind that can inform, persuade, convince, enrapture, create emotional response or entertain others has access to the ability of thought control over the same.

I speak all the time about the power of words in discussions about our inner dialogue and within our interpersonal relationships. Communication is important on its own on every level. Words are spells. That much you can learn from memes these days. Beyond the importance of getting our own inner voices and thoughts under our conscious command, lies the ability to interject ideology into the masses thus stirring all types of potential responses. Some orchestrated. Some unforeseen. Yet it all comes from an ability to string the right words together and to present them in an engaging way.

The North Node in Gemini has certainly been teaching upon this topic. This Mercury ruled node has frequently taught through his persona of the Magician and trickster since his trip in Gemini began. These nodal themes will continue under our incoming lunar cycle morphing to focus on the magick of the Storyteller and the Illusionist.

At times these two Magicians will be working together. They are not afraid to work solo. What's key is bringing their skills and themes to conscious levels so that we develop our own skills while remaining on the look out for the “Masters” or “Teachers” to appear. Because, they will. They will expect us to be ready. So it will be equally important for us to remain relaxed but to have enough foresight to also be prepared. Our energies still in Aquarius (Saturn/Jupiter) can help with vision and foresight. The flexibility and Air of Mars in Gemini can assist, too. But he's going to be trickier energy to contend with as we move ahead.

The New Moon in Pisces occurs on March 13th at 5:22 AM EST. As this 2 week lunar phase commences, Mercury begins a new chapter. He exits his Rx shadow for fresh degrees in Aquarius on the same day. Then, he goes off the deep dive into Pisces on the 15th.

Mercury's movement into Pisces tells us that the atmosphere is going to grow wet, muddy, unclear and likely confusing. Mercury in Pisces, transiting your 12th or in aspect to Neptune can feel a lot like a Mercury retrograde period. In all those situations, Mercury isn't operating as we accustomed to. He speaks less and listens more. He holds his thoughts to himself. In water, Mercury works best by noticing what is not said. He picks up nuance, vibration and information from the illogical realms. It's not that he operates poorly. It's just that if you weren't born with a set up like this it takes some time to get used to.

On broad levels, a stellium of Sun, Pallas, Mercury, Venus and Neptune in Pisces means things simply are not going to be as they appear. Much like the mirage of the boat floating on the sea which hit headlines as this stellium built

Our eyes could be fooled. We could misinterpret the information we are given and are at risk of being misunderstood ourselves. Mercury in water and especially in Pisces, is at risk of dunking phones in toilets, dumping water on computers and basically having a really hard time keeping up with all the little everyday gadgets (keys, phone, etc).

Pisces season is also the thaw. The final dissolution of the prior growing season as we head into the next. It represents a time rebirth and renewal but in a way that resonates with a mother's last month of pregnancy. The life within Mom is quite animated during that last month. Typically baby moves a lot. Mom does too either trying to get comfortable or making her way to and from the bathroom. In spite the two kind of being in a constant state of motion, not much really happens in that last month before birth. Both are tasked with “waiting” until the timing aligns or whatever. Some souls endure this timing in a more calm and patient manner than others. There is a restlessness in this energy. A “Squirming” or anticipatory type of feeling persists. It is like a child waiting for the days to warm enough so she can ride her skateboard or play baseball outside again.

The “squirmy” energy eventually begins to birth itself as we enter Aries season. First sprouts present as very tender and delicate at first. They become more resilient and established as we move through Aries season and into Taurus. In Pisces season, life continues to gestate. It is not viable for life on its own yet. But, it is without doubt alive.

During metaphorical gestation, many conditions are out of our control. The weather is usually fickle during periods of the Sun passing through a mutable sign. Flux and uncertainty are givens during mutable Astrological seasons with Pisces, specifically, being the most difficult to predict. There's even a saying about March “in like a lion and out like lamb” because of the unpredictability of Pisces season. Several weeks BEFORE Pisces season begins and there are cultural traditions that occur (groundhog day) trying to predict what the crap is going to happen during Pisces season. Rarely do the predictions come about precisely as expected. Pisces season will do as it does. I doubt there are 2 Pisces seasons in the history of Pisces season that have behaved the same. It is the nature of the double fished beast.

Pisces is the season of imagining what can be while our brains assimilate what just occurred. It's a transitional phase just like the Sun's passage through any other mutable sign. It's the only transitional phase, though, that is thematically followed by a period of “firsts.” That makes Pisces a wonderful season to allow ourselves to wonder with giddy anticipation what new things are coming our way. I always look forward to noting the first robin, spring flower or firefly. Plus, each new season brings a few things new or unanticipated.

Pisces is co-ruled by Neptune and Jupiter. For me, it is very easy to correlate the Neptune influence. It took a bit for me to connect Jupiter. That came when I accepted that Pisces is not just water. There is fire there. That's where Jupiter comes in. That's where the anticipatory “squirmy movement of life” feeling comes from too. With Jupiter and Neptune on Under the Sea thrones, we answer to the reign of the Storyteller and the Illusionist.

Both rulers on throne in Pisces is due to happen soon. Jupiter zips out of Aquarius in mid-May returning to his 2nd home in Pisces. He stays in the shallow waters during this trip leaving at the end of July to travel through most of the 3rd decan of Aquarius for a second time during his retrograde (6/20). His third passage from Aquarius 22 to 2 Pisces occurs following his direct station on Oct 17. Jupiter re-enters Pisces at the end of December. He doesn't leave his Rx shadow until the January 2022.

The plot lines that the Storyteller, Jupiter, will begin to introduce DURING THIS LUNAR CYCLE (following his passage over 22 Aquarius March 25th) will remain thematic and relevant through the rest of the year.

As mentioned, Mercury enters fresh territory at this New Moon. One of our lunar co-rulers, is due to enter his retrograde shadow. If you listen closely, you may be able to hear pages of the fresh chapter rustling. The Master taps the pen. This show promises to be entertaining if nothing else.

Not only are we in for a show. We are participants. Each of us key characters unaware. Remember, the Storyteller isn't working alone. He is in cohort with the Illusionist. As we are baffled by the Illusionist, the Storyteller will shape the reality from our confusion. Both wielding their magick in ways often unnoticed. Due the nature of this sky, it is a really good time to keep diary or note of the period between 3/25 and 6/20. Watch for new happenings or themes as it is highly likely they weave themselves back into the story line at some point through the rest of the year.

Our Guide for this New Moon is the King of Cups. There is not much this salty sailor has not seen. Even if he hasn't seen it, he has a good story about it. He's always happy to share his varied tales be it about the one that got away, the Leviathan, the mermaid, the exotic lands and people he has encountered or more emotionally twinged with his regrets, lost loves and chances. Rising to the fore as King over all the seas in Kingdom of Cups, he has sailed through lessons hurled at him by both the Illusionist and the Storyteller. He was likely one of their prized students making him WONDERFUL ally to turn to as we navigate similar waters.

He would advise us to be compassionate and well humored. To not take ourselves or anything else too seriously. He'd advise us to allow our emotions to run their course prior to making big decisions or taking action.

This King has loved and lost. He would definitely advise us to cherish the loves we find in front of us while we have them. He encourages our imaginations and dreams but gut checks us on matters of duty and accountability. He is an advocate for art and believes high creativity is the most employable skill.

He would tell us to keep our waters clean. Eat well. Stay well hydrated.

This King stands as example of what is possible when the elements of Water (emotions, compassion, acceptance, flow, love, imagination, creativity, intuition) are channeled toward a purpose. Water can do great things for a great many beings. It is essential. Vital. Deserving of respect and conservation. Misdirected or polluted and Water can become deadly, toxic, damaging or wasted. He expects that we understand how important this is.

As adviser for the New Moon in Pisces, The King of Cups has a few pearls to share with swine over wine. He happily gives a warm smile, cold drink and soft pat on the shoulder as his deep voice bubbles,

“When you cannot trust what you are seeing or hearing, make sure you can trust yourself. You can't know everything so make sure you know who you are. Don't let these assholes make you forget who you are and where you are going. They get off on that shit. They like to drive you out of your mind too. Maybe turn up your inner madness just a bit.

Get in the habit of keeping a tight ship. Protect the integrity of your vessel. Keep things in strong working order. Shore up any leaks and proactively address maintenance issues. You land lovers call that self-care, grounding, healthy emotional boundaries and good health hygiene or some shit.

Know you can't bend the sea nor the sky to your will. Study them closely and long enough to learn their game. Remember your job is to be the NAVIGATOR! Get from point A to point B making sure all contents of your vessel (including you) make it safely. Navigation is the antidote those two pranksters don't want you to find. You are your own storyteller. At the end of the trip, the story will be what you say it was according to the meaning you ascribe to it regardless of how the Storyteller originally scripts it. Let the Storyteller weave his tale. You shall weave your own after this trip is through.

Navigation overpowers the Illusionist, too. When navigating it doesn't matter what kind of potentially distracting thing the Illusionist is stirring up. Navigation looks to prove nothing true, false, real or unreal. Nothing is of much relevance until it blocks or impedes our path forward. The only response is to circumvent it as efficiently as possible.

Keep navigating back to what you are trying to do and where you are trying to go. Be patient with yourself and the journey to get there. Respect the power of nature and pray. Pray a lot.”
