New Moon in Gemini: The Eye of the Storm

The New Moon perfects on June 3rd at 6:03 AM EDT. At this lunation, we enter a period of time that feels like a lull, a calm before the storm or simply like a resting spot. To me, it feels like a breezeway between two places. We find the ruler of this Moon, Mercury in Gemini, well placed and with the luminaries. But, the very next day he enters the sign of Cancer. There is certainly a palpable shift in how we think and communicate with the transition of Mercury from his Air home sign even if it is just right next door.
Of course, the sign of Cancer itself has emphasis already. We find Mars, Juno and the North Node there. Plus, any natal bodies that a person may have in the sign are, have or soon will be receiving “focus” from Pluto, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Our Cancer planets are not the only bodies receiving energy from these big players. However, the fact that they are included in that mix by way of harsh and amicable aspect while the North Node passes through their sign gives these Moon ruled entities emphasis.
In turn, as the North Node passes through Cancer emphasis is also brought continually back to our own Moon. The one we receive in our natal charts on the day we are born. Where that Moon is now by progression. The season it is in by way of her yearly cycle, our lunar return. Our emotional intelligence, maturity, coping mechanisms. All the personal healths (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual). The concepts of home, mother, family, nurturing, birth, creation, women, children, self-care, nesting, hormones, safety, security, attachment...regardless of whether that involves “good” feels or bad...emotions are present and palpable. These are personal core and root issues.
At the same time, within the collective, the same energy from the North Node in Cancer brings forth the same types of concepts and creates emphasis around them. Our emotional intelligence, maturity, coping mechanisms. All the personal healths (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual). The concepts of home, mother, family, nurturing, birth, creation, women, children, self-care, nesting, hormones, safety, security, attachment....same. Perhaps you've witnessed/participated in some “Collective” discussions that involve these topics lately. Perhaps you dubbed some or all of it as “the same old song and dance” well rehearsed, perfectly timed and rather unthrillingly predictable.

13 Gemini (Moon):A great musician at his piano

Just as the Sun's path, when rising and setting, begins to drift slowly Southward after the Summer Solstice tells us that we are entering the latter half of the calendar year, so does the North Node in Cancer point us toward a season which escorts energies thematic to its name simply as a result of a predictable and continual cycle. The bodies in our Astrology spin like clockwork. Their location at any given time (past or future) due the predictability of their cycles can be easily calculated...even a hypothetical point such as the nodes of the Moon. It's no different than what happens in any other season. Autumn brings death. Spring brings birth. The Season of North Node in Cancer brings a time in which we are tasked to grow, heal, nurture and mature all that is of the sign of the Crab. It's not personal; it's the season we are in. Just so happens, though, anything that brings forth issues that strike an emotional chord or relate to core/root issues... feels MIGHTILY personal.
Now, we get “all that” JUST from the North Node's transit through Cancer all by itself. Additionally, many of the relevant themes have recently been agitated/irritated/inflamed by Mars, restricted/blocked/stone walled by Saturn, tempted/destroyed/abused by Pluto, softened/sensitized/confused by Neptune. Even MORE recently the same themes were brought up against Chiron in Aries by Mars in square which harshly mixed in topics like devaluing of the individual, human life, emasculation, toxic or wounded masculinity, immaturity, wounded animal-like aggression and our personal inability/ability to feel “valid and vital” as individuals as well as our individual abilities/inabilities to deal with emotions that revolve around anger, frustration, self-assertion etc. Ensure that, regardless of your biological sex/gender identity, you are seeking to appreciate and healthfully employ the more feminine and passive energies while actively seeking to heal innate masculine energies.
As this New Moon rises, the themes we have been dealing with on individual and collective levels do not go away. As a matter of fact, there is a higher chance of those themes growing in intensity and meeting with a greater severity of response. Plus, the way we think and talk about them will change, as well. We go from a linear, straight-line, airy, curious but not necessarily “immersed” in the fullness of the emotional influence of any given topic from Mercury in Gemini whose word choice is geared toward learning, exchange of information and ongoing conversation to...indirect, fully immersed, empathic, intuitive, sensitive and sentimental/nostalgic type of energy whose word choice in thinking or communicating is GREATLY influenced by things such as one's personal experience with the themes of Cancer which are... Our emotional intelligence, maturity, coping mechanisms. All the personal healths (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual). The concepts of home, mother, family, nurturing, birth, creation, women, children, self-care, nesting, hormones, safety, security, attachment. Those core issues are going to keep bubbling forth on personal levels for folks to deal with while they are also given chance to mature, grow, heal and learn to deal more healthfully.

Again, this will begin to peak in intensity in July. But, these first two weeks of June? We are still in the breezeway that will eventually lead us toward that less arid and personally/collectively intense challenging season of energy. A New Moon's energy offers a low emotional tide that has followed a period of the emotional tides' recession or withdraw captured in the season of the balsamic Moon. Following the “Drawing out” and “withdrawing inward” cycle, it's as if the “vessel” of emotions has been cleared out or emptied in preparation for the next season to begin filling it up once again. The monthly season of the New Moon in any given sign brings us to our “empty vessel.” The intentions/seeds we set forth within that New Moon season dictate what will fill the void.
At this particular New Moon, our empty vessel finds tensions easing and relaxing momentarily. The South Node slightly pulls away from Saturn. Mars wanes in square to Chiron. He waxes in opposition to Saturn but there is still a wide orb yet. Mercury wanes in opposition to Jupiter meaning the volume in the atmosphere is dropping. Plus, Venus is richly grounded, grateful and gratified still in close trine with Pluto in Capricorn while also making gloriously rich and fertile soil for intentions setting/manifestation efforts.
As we move further into June, softening continues while Neptune and Water energies gradually and steadily rise. Our First Quarter Moon, whose season thrusts challenges to growth into our awareness, includes a mutable t-square with Jupiter and Neptune. Our Full Moon, whose season reveals the blossom/fruit of our seed sowing, features Jupiter locked into square with Neptune at 18 degrees. Which, just so happens, to be the same degree the North Node is on. Oh yeah, Neptune is stationing on that degree...and, btw, Saturn is at 18 degrees of Capricorn joining the party, too. The softening continues. As the season of Gemini morphs into the season of Cancer at the solstice, Neptune turns retrograde (6/21). Mercury enters his retrograde shadow. Then, the energy of increased sensitization/softening meets in confluence with the erratic and anxious making energy of the ecliptic. I want to bring emphasis to that confluence for a reason. As June moves forward the energy operates to soften us. Empathy increases. Intuition and the “pull” of the same increases. People become more sensitive. Emotions are on the surface and raw. Saturn in sextile to Neptune is a wonderfully employable energy but it also points to boundaries (emotional, physical, psychic) becoming more permeable. Jupiter's square to Neptune grows that permeability exponentially while also spotlighting our personal vulnerabilities. This type of softening, increased sensitivity and increased sense of vulnerability is a greenhouse for anxiety to grow anyway. Problem being, the “flow” of this softening doesn't trickle into immediate outlet likened to the passage of an unencumbered gentle brook finally finding outlet in a slowly passing river. Extended periods of choppy and stormy waters separates the lull from smooth sailing.
The Eye, much like a storm, is a passing phase. The sky and air lightens. Visibility clears. Those odd and ominous moments in the eye captured in snapshot photograph look like a regular beautiful sunny day. But, in those moments when all looks still, the small hairs on our bodies are standing up. Our visceral senses are piqued and physical energies fatigued as a result of the adrenaline pumped into us in response to the first half of the storm. The heart's movements are palpable. There is a brief moment within the eye, that we can release the breath we've held imprisoned in our chests and breathe a bit more deliberately and freely for a moment. Yet, somewhere in the “whole” of ourselves we sense the storm's imminent return. It is within those moments of the “eye” that we are most present (connected to ourselves and the immediate environment around us) and aware of “the moment” while also being physically invigorated in response to what is waiting on the horizon (the future).
While Mars resides in Cancer our actions illustrate how the influence of the emotional body is interpreted. If we interpret the emotional cues as anger; our actions illustrate that. If interpreted as fear, our actions become fearful. How things go with that on an individual level depends on how well we can interpret emotional cues prior to allowing the body to respond. In the most simplistic form, it's all in how you decide you want to spend your time in the eye. A decision which will be influenced by your ability to cope in response to an heighted or increased level of sensitivity and influx of emotionally charged energy. That means it is largely up to the individual to decide at this New Moon if this is a time for them to seek shelter, gather supplies/information or simply take a deep breath in appreciation of the respite offered in the eye ahead of the next incoming wave.
The Sun, Moon and Mercury together and basically unencumbered by anything else in the sky offers us a chance to seek clarity and draw education from what is presented through the emotional body. Within that is opportunity to further our knowledge about how our personal system operates by consciously peering through this brief window allowing ourselves to remain curious. As Mercury drifts into Cancer the nuance surrounding our thinking shifts into a nonlinear fashion. Mercury in Cancer absorbs and processes information that resides outside the realm of logic. Her thinking flows backward and forward from memory to anticipation of birthing something new. In Cancer, our thinking is influenced more strongly by empathy and mood as well all the aforementioned in relation to the sign of Cancer.
As that occurs, however, Mercury is also embraced by Uranus in Taurus in waxing sextile. If we allow (as the expression of water would have us to do) ourselves to follow the flow of thought as if we were standing on the banks of a river watching it flow by instead of standing in the flowing water itself, we can glean much wisdom about the ways in which emotions (and all those other Cancer themed matters...home, mother, women, safety, security, all the healths, nurturing, attachment) may impact how we think and process information. As well as show us the ways in which the same bears influence upon the actions we ultimately decide to take.
If it feels as if the mind has a tendency to wander or flow through pages of time either backward or forward after Mercury enters Cancer, my advice is to allow that. To stand on the bank of the river and observe it all as it passes by. Allow yourself to daydream and sculpt in your imaginings the best possible outcome you can fathom for yourself. Drift back in time to pleasant memories and those that bring forth a comforting sense of nostalgia. And, Tarot thinks this is a good idea, too. For advice under this New Moon, we have received the 4 of Cups.

The 4 advises we monopolize upon the chance to catch our breath and then to surrender to the flow of thinking that follows. As we envision that ideal outcome, day dream, sink into nostalgia and imagination, the scenes we conjure deliver unto us meaning in an indirect way. What can be gleaned from our “visions” is what it is about the 3 cups we have in the tangible realm that makes them unfulfilled, drained and disinteresting. Through our visions we can learn what it is we may be personally missing or what factions of our lives we are finding unfulfilling or dissatisfying. Plus it can help us identify more clearly what it is we find in our lives to be draining. With that knowledge and vision in tow, it becomes more clear what ruts it is time for us to emerge from. We learn more about what it is we personally need and what “nutrients” of life sustenance may be missing denying an opportunity to experience a full and healthy life.

Mercury 28 Gemini: A man declared bankrupt

Leaning into that while focusing your energy toward accepting, healing, allowing, resting, and grounding instead of attempting to force an external agenda in the physical world monopolizes upon the energetic atmosphere at hand. The time can be used to hone skills related to learning to work with resistance and flow. It's well framed to use as a study center to increase your ability to decipher emotional, non-verbal, psychic, empathic or intuitive cues. Plus, reserving energy at this time leaves us well prepped to follow the advice we encounter at the Full Moon in Sagittarius, the Knight of Cups. At the Full Moon the horn sounds for the army to “charge” and folks take off from whatever position they find themselves in relation to all that is Cancer. Our emotional intelligence, maturity, coping mechanisms. All the personal healths (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual). The concepts of home, mother, family, nurturing, birth, creation, women, children, self-care, nesting, hormones, safety, security, attachment. But, victory in this battle? It's crown goes to the person who is able to endure healthfully stuff like emotional intensity, pain, feelings of vulnerability..to who is best at indirect and nurturing leadership..to the folks who prioritize the health of themselves so that they may then also reach out nurturing to others...to those who are able to help others feel nurtured and safe providing shelters from the storm.

Venus at 24 Taurus: A mounted Indian with scalp locks

Monopolize upon the lull found in the eye. Prepare and ground ahead of the quickening of the ecliptic. Allow yourself to envision and set intention toward what you deem as worthy under this brief moment of clarity because the ground for sowing seeds is very rich. Remember that regardless of your current skill level in dealing with matters such as anxiety, intuition, empathy and general sensitivity...your level of sensitivity to all that is going to increase as we inch toward the end of June and July. That means reinforcing boundaries, increasing efforts at self care and being extra diligent about the healthfulness of what it is you are exposing yourself to. Just as it is important to remember all this about yourself, it can be helpful to remember it is happening to everyone around you too. It's a gentle hand that is operated by strength. Not a violent one. Remember that in your own responses to yourself and others as the lull begins to swing toward turbulence.
