Natal Saturn in Taurus meets Uranus in Taurus: When custom, tradition and the ways it has always been done...fails

Let's talk about Saturn in Taurus and the transit of Uranus through Taurus. Taurus is the sign of “to have and to hold.” With that I mean it correlates with tangible resources such as money or material possessions. Plus, it relates directly to the physical senses of touch, taste, smell, hearing and eyesight. In Tarot, it correlates to the Hierophant which also speaks of personal and worldly values that are meant to shape the framework of conducting one's life in general. It is also the manager of self-value and worth.
Saturn in Taurus' presence in someone's chart during their early life through midlife can suppress or restrict these things. Meaning, perhaps a person's self value has been restricted in some way. I find this to be true of folks who may have grown up with some sort of very rigid value system set forth by the family of origin that they consistently felt or were told they fell short in. Usually these folks do come from what is considered a very traditional family. There is a mother and a father..usually siblings. They can be everyday working folks or be born of wealth. Either way, though, there are solid lines typically drawn around what behavior is acceptable and what is not based on the established set up of the family itself. Usually these are the families that whether spoken about within the unit or just implied, who wish to be seen as “just a typical family” or in the case of established wealth to expect all members of the family to answer to a certain type of established social code of behavior. With that, I think of England's royals and the code of personal and public conduct that has been historically established by that monarchy. Either way...whether the family is traditionally of the working ilk or of royalty...these ways of life have been firmly established usually for several generations. And, it's not untypical for the Saturn in Taurus person to be greatly conditioned to hold tight to this in their early upbringing as they are expected to perpetuate the “norms” of the family's status just as generations upon generations of folks within their family lines have previously done. Some folks do just fine with that. Others who fail the expectation or attempt to break out of the tradition in some way are usually “demoted” in worth by the family of origin for “rocking the boat” or refusing to conform. Then, these folks internalize that sentiment, often thinking just because they are not totally in alignment with the established norms of the family or because they cannot produce what it is the family deems valuable...then they, themselves, are “less than” in comparison to their family of origin. That mentality follows them and I see them often struggle with issues of self-worth well into adulthood.

There is a sense of not being allowed or capable of breaking with that tradition. For example, if the family of origin was of the “working poor” then this native may firmly believe they will always be beholden to a similar fate. If they come from a family of established wealth, they may feel they are never allowed to fall short of matching the income level of where they came from...for example, they come from a generations of doctors and therefore are failures if they don't want to be a doctor or cannot pass medical school. If the family “tradition” is a married couple of the same race and from the same social class that has children then this person can feel like a failure if they fall in love with someone who is of a different race, different class of folks, has a different sexual orientation or if they are not able to find a suitable traditional partner to marry and have kids with by a certain familial established age. You see? That's a fairly astute challenge set forth by Saturn in Taurus. Either you fall in line and are considered a solid part of the unit thus deemed successful or you don't and you are a failure or not living up to the baseline expectations of the family which bears impact upon matters of self-worth. Being “different” isn't something that is really valued in this kind of set up. A native's self worth can revolve around their ability to conform to and successfully perpetrate these established norms...regardless of whether these are deemed as positive things or not. You can have the same type of influence toward conformity if you came from generations upon generations of criminals, you know?
Also, Saturn in Taurus can denote a diminish of one physical sense that, in turn, gives rise to enhanced development of the other physical senses or even birth forth “other worldly” senses to compensate. If, for example, eye sight is diminished...it is not uncommon for the senses of touch and hearing to enhance in some way to help the person navigate their world to compensate for the loss of vision. It isn't uncommon for a person with a 2nd house placement of any kind or a placement in Taurus that leads them to an enhanced perception in one or more of the physical senses. Perhaps this is an oddly acute sense of hearing. An especially sensitive sense of smell. Or, more readily associated to the sign, a very particular and delicate sense of touch in relationship to texture. The Princess who noticed there was a pea in a pile of mattresses and couldn't get comfortable to sleep due that? Chic likely had some Taurus.
Now, it's pretty relevant to remember the most very basic operation of Uranus in Taurus as we prepare to discuss the influence of his conjunction to Saturn in Taurus. On the most basic level, Uranus in Taurus is taking established and long standing norms and updating them to meet our current world. It is also taking what has been commonly established as “value” whether that be tangible worth or self-value and upgrading the standards built around that as well. As an example, the Social Security system in the US was established the last time Uranus was in Taurus. It doesn't surprise me at all that this system is becoming outdated and continually more ineffective and in need of an upgrade as Uranus now enters the sign. At the last go, implementing the Social Security system was a reflection of an upgrade of collective norms and values. Now, it's time for it to modernize again as a reflection of changes that have occurred within the US. But, if we look at the world in general? This type of “call for an upgrade due to a changes in collective norms and values” is happening all around. We are talking gender and race equality and redistribution of wealth and a rebuild of long standing systems whose effectiveness has been shown themselves to be outdated. Plus, with the increased use of online banking and exchange of currency, it has been shown to us that our established rules of keeping those transactions safe fails. It is time to update security standards around this concept as it simply is not going away as evidenced by the rash of security breaches that threaten this type of monetary exchange as well as leave us wide open to things like identity theft, etc. This new way of exchange is here to stay. So, the norms must change to accommodate it. Ok? That's baseline of what Uranus in Taurus over the next 7 years is going to take aim at.

When Saturn and Uranus meet, whatever standard you have built your self-worth upon is about to meet with challenge. Let's say you come from a family of established wealth. You have followed right along and done well yourself thus perpetuating the tradition. Then, Uranus in Taurus hits your Saturn and wipes out your wealth in some way. Automatically a person is prone to think they are worthless as a result of this established system crashing. From there, they are challenged to realize their own worth over and above that and also innovate and use inventive ways to re-create wealth in their lives while also innovating their perspective on what “Wealth” is to begin with.
Imagine you have built your self-worth around the concept of building that traditional family with one parent of each sex who have what you deem as “traditional” jobs and roles complete with the 2.5 kids and all that. Let's at this point in your life you have established that. Then, Uranus in Taurus comes along and you find yourself facing divorce and the crumbling of your established “traditional family” and of course, Saturn in Taurus is going to think less of themselves as this occurs. Then, they are challenged in the same ways as the previous example as they learn self-worth is not something that should ever be attached to something like that...you know? Self-worth is something that needs to be established innately not based upon anything created within the tangible world.
All this means, if your self-worth IS built upon wordly structures or an ability to stand firmly within a set of established norms...Uranus in Taurus is going to rock those structures and challenge you to become “enlightened” to your true sense of personal value. That sounds scary. And, when the initial “crash” occurs it likely will be. However, as Uranus is blowing these false or out-dated structures apart he also is going to break your “give a damn” about them in some way. He helps us detach from the need to conform just enough so that after the crash we can actually script new standards that are more fit to current times and thus change the dynamic of the norms we live by and that we pass on to future generations. We are breaking some very long standing cycles here and slowly developing new and more independent standards.
Saturn and Uranus together look at established rules and guidelines as suggestions. Depending on how they are joined depends on how we go about that. There are some with Uranus and Saturn in harsh aspect that know the established norm and will strive to blow it apart regardless. In easier aspect, the native may perceive of the ways “things have always been done” and look for new ways to do things that are more efficient or that employ modern technology or a higher level of understanding in regard to the concepts at hand. And, so, that...in a lot of ways...is what the Saturn in Taurus native will be challenged to do through the transit of Uranus in Taurus. There are going to be some very deeply encoded standards of behavior that reflect “how things have always been done” and Uranus will challenge you to break with that and create new and more modern ways to go about things as our understanding of how ineffective they have become grows to a point that they are intolerable or just flat out fail in our current day. Our ability to navigate this at its core is going to be based on our ability to realize our own worth outside of meeting any kind of worldly or established family expectation of perpetrating or meeting these standards. So, that's where we need to focus first...discovering and solidifying a more accurate measure of our own value that really has absolutely nothing to do with what has historically been set forth as a measurement of it.

Stability will be shaken temporarily, at the very least, with these folks. Thus challenging them to create new structures as well as come to a higher level of understanding of the concept of stability itself. Old ways in which we felt safe and established crash thus forcing us to innovate in those areas as well. Yet, just as Uranus crashes things he also gives us independent license to develop personally scripted new ways that work more effectively than whatever it was that just got obliterated. It isn't easy work. IT IS NOT QUICK WORK THAT IS STARTED AND FINISHED IN A MATTER OF DAYS! But it will be greatly helpful to realize this is what occuring as it does. When we deal within this energy with a willingness to change and update these personal systems and norms, then what we are left with as Uranus leaves is a chance to make positive, more fulfilling and stable structure that will serve us much better as individuals as well as create new guidelines that will...in about 84 years time...become those “ways things have always been done” in need of reconstruction and innovation when Uranus is back in this sign again.
But, these very sturdy beasts who have always been reliable, predictable or seem to have the patience of Job...are going to have their “Steadiness” and patience greatly tested. At the other end of this, though, lies a chance at a much less cumbersome way of life. Yet, as they navigate this conjunction folks around them are going to accuse them of acting “out of character” most likely. There is not a thing wrong with that. Just know it might happen and you really...do not have to care. In the very early stages of it, though, it most likely will matter to Saturn in Taurus. Overcoming that will strengthen your sense of self-value thus leading you to a place where you feel you have personal authority to make the changes you need to make in effort to meet the challenges that Uranus in Taurus present to you.
So essentially for natives with Saturn in Taurus, I encourage you to attempt to see where these “established norms” are that may be in need of reform or upgrade. Are you happy being a doctor in a family who has produced generations of them? If not...you'll be tempted to blow that whole thing up and perhaps at the end of it have your foot in the door learning the profession of your dreams instead of following the established familial guidelines. Did you come from a family of working poor and think that you and the rest of your bloodline are beholden to that? If so, you might be given a chance to break that cycle and come out of that social class. We can see how this will happen with the Royal Family already by watching Princes William and Harry slowly establish a new identity for the monarchy itself. This is the same kind of deal. How this goes will depend greatly on your personal current stage of development. If you've already experienced your Uranus opposition, this will be easier for you than someone who has not. That transit kind of breaks your “give a damn” a whole lot on its own. If you are younger you will struggle more as you are still likely pretty involved in matters of “family” expectation. Don't be afraid to rock the boat. Don't be afraid if your personal financial status changes (greatly increases or decreases..as it can go either way) or the way you conduct your life changes or is forced into change. Know, though it may feel unstable, that instability will lead you into slowly establishing new ways of operation that will serve you much better than what you are being forced to leave behind. Setting forth an ability to express gratitude for the most simplest of everyday blessings is going to help. As well as realizing an innate sense of personal value that is not attached to worldly deeds, goods or assessments made in regard to your ability to meet expectations. A more sincere form of appreciation for tangible resource will be developed thus steering us toward becoming more resourceful and more aware of the ways in which we can reduce our human footprint upon the Earth. What occurs doesn't mean that you've failed or done something wrong. It simply means it is time for things to evolve and you will have an active role as an individual in perceiving the challenges of upgrading systems long past their due.
