This Solar Eclipse is barely beyond the
North Node in Gemini occuring on June 21 at 2:42 AM. The New Moon's
proximity to the nodal axis is why it is an eclipe but the orb
between the actual lunation and where the nodes are calculated to be
can vary. In this instance, the nodes and the lunation are right next
to one another. We find the nodal axis at 29 Gem/Sag 07 as the New
Moon culminates at 0 Cancer 22. As this occurs, Venus nears her
direct station (6/25) and Mercury is retrograde (6/18). Mars is not
yet in his RX shadow but approaches Aries quickly. Here we find him
still in sextile with Jupiter, Pluto and Pallas.
The multi-sextiles from Mars to our
planets in Capricorn are considered positive energy. They can provide
structure, discipline and boundary. But, I am of the opinion that
“positive” is more determined by the intention of the user than
anything else. Just like using a hammer to drive a nail versus using
a hammer to bash someone's head. Same energy. Same tool. Directed
under different intent. What I've found with sextiles is the energy
is active and dynamic. It will find outlet in some way. With this
type of mixture, we could feel compelled to do something but have a
really hard time discerning what that should be. At it's lowest form,
it instigates unconsciously led restrictive and punitive actions. “In
the heat of any given moment” our responses are at threat of being
spurred by unresolved shadow issues such as those perpetrated out of
fear and rage.
One of the best ways to use these
sextiles is to become very deeply and intimately connected with your
own motivations. Before you make a move, ensure that you are fully
aware of the what is driving you toward choosing that move while also
assessing the potential effectiveness of your chosen action to
achieve your goal. Assess the potential consequences. Also, it helps
to ensure you HAVE a goal or mission statement in mind so you can
align your actions to help you move toward that goal or in the spirit
of the mission. In personal assessment of your motivations, you may
find a varied stew of reasons why you may be inclined to go about
something a certain way. But by deep introspection, self-honesty and
confrontation of shadow, these drives and actions can be made
conscious and become more deliberate. From there our subsequent
choice of action can be realigned with values that more accurately
reflect our personal truth and that lend their energy toward
purposeful achievement. In other words, the energy is best used
passively and can be geared toward as an exercise in shadow
integration and mindfulness as well as being employed toward
construction of stronger, healthier and more supportive boundaries.
Regardless of motivation or desired
course of action, effective use of this energy requires an ability to
work with the concepts of resistance and flow. As example, if you are
attempting to do something and keep spinning out, getting distracted,
can't “get into it” or just encountering blocks in your attempts
that is considered encountering resistance. If that occurs, try
switching to something else. Or, consider laying the task down for
the time being and coming back to it later. You'll likely find that
some things flow forward more easily than others at different times.
In an Earth/Water set up such as this, seeking the path that flows
the most easily is typically the best route to go (as far as being
effective) versus fighting your way upstream. A willingness to switch
things up and remain flexible is also supported by Venus and the
North Node in Gemini.
Mars will continue to grow in
importance as we traverse this lunar cycle. He will enter the sign of
Aries on June 27th at 9:46 PM EDT. Thankfully, this is a
journey he begins while in sextile to Saturn Rx in Aquarius. That is
a very fresh, sobering and stabilizing type of energy that will help
us remain mindful while also binding us to the concepts of personal
maturity and accountability. Mars' entrance into Aries occurs about 5
hours prior to First Quarter Moon (6/28 at 4:16 AM EDT) of this lunar
cycle.
First Quarters of any cycle are
challenging. It's their job...in a lot of ways. In a lunar cycle
framed by a Solar Eclipse leading toward a Lunar Eclipse, the First
Quarter Moon is usually fairly pivotal. This one will likely not
disappoint. It is of TREMENDOUS benefit to have Mars supported by
Saturn as he transitions into Aries.
Mars' entrance into Aries could very
easily be felt as a “waking up” or “birth of desire” or an
“awakened initiative.” This is where the warrior emerges from
his retreat. In this instance (Sextile Saturn), what we birth needs
adherence to a far reaching vision, maturity, wisdom, precision,
skill, logic and to be conducted under a duty toward matters of
equality and unity. Low intent turns the energy restless,
self-destructive, reactive, cold and devoid of compassion. So, if we
become well practiced at the art of assessing our own motivations
with Mars at this eclipse, as the challenge of the cycle's First
Quarter waxes in; then, our choice of how to move forward in the face
of that challenge can be more easily discerned.
Expect, though, that it will not be
Mars getting most of the press under this Solar Eclispe. The majority
of the focus is going to be spent assessing the moves of Venus,
Neptune and Mercury as they enter their stations as well as the
incoming Jupiter/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn on 6/30. All of which
are also quite relevant.
However, Mars' position at this Moon is
still of importance. He can be perceived as “the sneaky instigator”
here. He is in an out of sign square with this eclipse. Plus, he is
moving swiftly toward squaring the nodal axis (6/26) just prior to
being birthed in Aries. The outlet for that square with the nodal
axis is in Virgo. We will have access to the Virgo qualities we need
by way of the Moon that passes through the configuration calling us
to choose the action that is healing. That serves others. That
incorporates our individual skillset and, in some way, is aimed to
help the situaiton rather than cause additional harm. We are called
to learn to intuitively sense what the situation or others involved
may need to heal. It is likely at this point we realize that in
order to really move forward effectively, the way that we think and
subsequently go about things needs to change. This likely flies in
our faces as old strategies and methods continue to fail.
The First Quarter of this cycle marks a
time in which the general atmosphere is steeped with intensity. Yes,
even likely more steeped in intensity than we find it now. This
lunation actually marks the lowest point of intensity between the
Lunar Eclipses in Sagittarius (6/5) and Capricorn (7/5). Plus, the
First Quarter Moon (7 Cancer/Libra 06) pulls in Chiron in Aries (9
Aries 21) by square creating a Cardinal t-square which finds outlet
in Capricorn. Coming on the heels of that upward bend of intensity,
Mercury will create his second sextile with Uranus in Taurus in
tandem with his conjunction to the Sun in Cancer.
The sextiles from Mercury to Uranus
within his retrograde path offer a point of stabilization and
clarity. Conditions have been blurry and foggy off and on since
Jupiter/Neptune square last September and grew worse during our last
Mercury Rx from Pisces to Aquarius. That cycle, too, offered points
of clairty as Mercury moved back into Aquarius and sextiled Uranus in
Taurus thrice. For reference, I will place the dates of the one
previous sextile in Mercury's current Rx path and the 2 yet to come
below. Cherish the moments of clarity and foresight as they come.
However, know that some of what is “known” through this sextile
comes intuitively. “Knowing” is felt. It could also exacerbate
current conditions of anxiety or even stir issues of mania, insomnia
or impulsivity. To temper that potential, remember to stay well
grounded and avoid situations/substances that could cause you to
become overly mentally stimulated (ie: too much screen time, too many
stimulants such as caffeine, nicotine or sugar, etc).

Neptune's station will cause things to
blur and skew a bit more momentarily. However, as he settles RX the
tides begin to recede revealing the ocean's floor. Showing us what
lies behind the veil. It destroys false pretense and reveals what was
once hidden or obscured. We need that. Yet, as the station occurs it
can feel like saturation, overwhelm or like being caught in a rip
tide. Folks are prone to fall off the pedestals we put them at such
movements and the mechanics behind manipulative illusion often
surface. At this Solar Eclipse, we find Neptune in his RX station.
Folks can feel confused, extremely lethargic and vulnerable. Our
individual responses to those feelings have a tendency to vary
greatly. Neptune officially turns retrograde on 6/22 at about 7:30 PM
EDT while the Moon is still active in Cancer. Is this where the
Magician's “sleight of hand” is discovered as mentioned at the New Moon in Gemini? That's quite
possible.
As a matter of
fact, Neptune could reveal the mechanics of illusion that have been
at question since the very beginning of 2020. His Rx station makes
amicable aspect (sextile and trine) to the points of our previous
Lunar Eclipse in Cancer that occurred on 1/20.
Shortly after
Neptune joins in the backward planet parade, Jupiter Rx catches up
with Pluto Rx in Capricorn. This combination of energies can be
stoic, indignant, self-righteous and bound to malefic tradition and
props. It can cause a grappling over matters deemed as tangible
worth. In reality what is being deemed as worthy of protection often
shows itself to be merely an effigy or symbolic attribute that
embodies our own fears. Simply put this is idolatry with true
intention vieled with claims of historical relevance. However, once
boiled down it reveals shadowy and subservient intent. This our
structures created with the intention to instill fear and support
oppression while exalting atrocities against humanity and calling it
“honoring” or “teaching” history. These idols embody the
weakness and willful ignorance of their worshippers. If you find
yourself adamantly clinging to the importance of maintaining symbols
of hate or choosing to protect stone and fabric over living flesh you
might wanna check yourself for motivation again. Jupiter shines his
spotlight on the ugly underbelly that Pluto is exhuming. In the
process, Jupiter makes the putrid, rotting and decayed unignorable.
This conjunction occurs on June 30 at 2:39 AM at 24 Capricorn 06. Not
only will false heros be prone to fall off their pedestals as Neptune
turns retrograde...with the Jupiter/Pluto conjunction they might even
burst into flame once they hit the ground.
As the
Jupiter/Pluto conjunction occurs the Moon waxes in the sign of
Scorpio. The Moon in the sign of darkness and shadow swirls with
intensity as Jupiter spotlights, records and subsequently publishes
the issues connected to abuses of power and control. The Moon will
have just left a square with Saturn as darkness descends (7:02 PM
EDT) on the East Coast on 6/29 adding compression and restriction to
an already heated stew much like a pressure cooker. By Noon following
the Jupiter/Pluto conjunction, the lid on that pressure cooker is
likely to blow as the Moon opposes Uranus in Taurus. The clearly
marked upward bend in intensity that begins at the First Quarter
spikes yet again.
The pressure
cooker energy leads us into the 2nd
Mercury/Uranus sextile (see above). Before we get to that sextile the
Sun in Cancer squares Chiron in Aries at 1:48 PM EDT. The fears that
seep forth into the collective at this time are a reflection of all
that is wounded, toxic, weak, self-serving and a result of
inneffective or emasculated self-assertion. A mission of healing is
needed at this juncture but it will be difficult for many to maintain
themselves in the face of their own anger to embark upon that path.
Yet the Universe
also provides us with the key energies we need to free ourselves from
this toxicity on individual levels as we turn the calendar page to
July. On the 1st,
the Sun officially finds Uranus in Taurus by sextile and the Moon is
empowered by sextiles to all that resides at the latter degrees of
Capricorn. By the end of the day, after the Scorpio Moon falls Void
(11:20 AM), Mercury Rx squares Chiron in Aries and Saturn slides back
into Capricorn. Saturn then holds at that crucial 29th
degree of Capricorn as if waiting in line up to be a big factor as
he's granted rulership over our Lunar Eclipse on 7/5.
So, basically,
that is how the energies line out as we move from this Solar Eclipse
toward the Lunar Eclipse in July. As mentioned, as we make our way
toward the Solar Eclipse we find ourselves at the lowest enegetic
point on our way to the Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn. But, it will not
take long for those energies hit that sharp upward bend of the First
Quarter. For guidance to assist us in navigating the energy of this
Solar Eclipse, Tarot has given us the Hanging Man. Symbolism
connected to this card has been storming into the collective through
issues being addressed on Federal levels as well as
playing out in horrific actual happenings. His presence as guide at
this lunation can allude to the creation of martyrs, sacrifice,
surrender and could also indicate that we are greatly restricted in
regard to our ability to move or exert ourselves.
What came to my
mind while assessing this draw for this Moon and while taking into
consideration the energy of our most recent New Moon in Gemini that warned of “sleight
of hand” was...”Ah...so the Magician of a North Node is also an escape artist.”
I saw Houdini suspended and bound as he is easily the most recognized
escape artist. I honestly didn't know there was a word that embodied
the study of the art of escape until I started researching for
information about this eclipse. Not only is Escapology an actual
word, there is a “Patron Saint of Escapologists.”
St. Nicholas Owen
was a carpenter who built secret rooms in Catholic households meant
to harbor priests in hiding. It is believed he masterminded the
famous escape of Father John Gerard from the Tower of London in 1597.
He is described as short of stature and suffering from a hernia. He
also had a debiltated leg which occurred after a horse fell on him.
From what I've read he was sometimes referred to as “Little John.”
But, little or debiltated, his limitations did not prevent him from
involving himself in work that supported his own beliefs nor did they
cause waiver in his conviction even while being brutally tortured and
eventually killed during his own imprisonment in the Tower of London.
I'm not so sure he should not be the Patron Saint of Chiron in Aries
as well because he surely does fit the characteristics of that
archetype proving effectiveness is possibile in spite of personal
limitation and infirmity that could limit one's physical ability to
assert themselves. Once we are able to embrace and accept our
personal limitations and issues connected with a wounded sense of
Mars, we can discover ways in which we can assert ourselves more
effectively. That is one message of guidance being given to us at
this New Moon which will serve us well to remember as we approach the
incoming harsh aspects coming to Chiron in Aries.
The standard
advice of the Hanging Man says we may be limited in regard to what it
is we are able to do. It suggests surrendering to the situation and
the timing of it. That doesn't mean to give up. “Surrendering” to
the situation means accepting all circumstances for what they are.
Accepting them doesn't mean you have to like them or get comfortable
there. It is from that perspective of acceptance that we can then
begin to perceive of what the situation can become. We are blinded in
our ability to do that if we can never actually see the situation for
what it is. The Hanging Man suggests that physical struggle is futile
here. Instead, it's time to think things over. Wait the drag of
resistance out. It encourages allowing our perspective to shift and
taking into consideration the “other's” point of view. We are
supported in reconsidering our positions and approach. We are
welcomed to change our minds. The energies are best met with a
willingness to be flexible (Houdini was a controtionist) and an
intent to overcome/conquer our fears of the unknown. With Jupiter
nearing Pluto while holding rulership over our South Node in
Sagittarius, the fear of unknown will continue to grow. Whereas, the
North Node in Gemini led by Mercury in Cancer advises us to think
along the lines of birthing something brand new to fill that
otherwise nebulous void.
The Hanging Man
also advises if your tongue is tired of wagging, maybe try listening
for awhile. If you are sincerely struggling with a fear of the
unknown, then allow yourself to remain curious with the intent to
understand. Ask questions and listen/consider the answers. Use your
words. If you are unsure of your own reasoning ask for feedback or
bring your topics of interest out into discussion. Again, listen to
and consider what is reflected back to you as well as the information
exchanged.
Since I
specifically saw Houdini while looking at the Hanging Man for this
lunation, I wanted to refresh myself on his Astrology. As I did, I
noticed that Mars was transitting his natal Mercury in Pisces, Moon
in Gemini and Jupiter in Virgo during the Solar Eclipse. I laughed to
myself when I thought...”Ahhh, so Mars has the Magician all heated
up, huh? Wonder what he has to say?” Especially since Houdini was
not really known for curtailing his opinion on anything. But, he was
also known to share a few secrets of his own trade which piqued my
curiosity to see if there could be a quote attributed to him that
helped embody the energy of the Hanging Man. Serendipitously, the
findings did not disappoint. The first quote hands us the keys to our
own escape if we find ourselves bound at this eclipse. The second
advises that above and beyond technique in regard to Escapology (he
was also a skilled lock picker) that a willingness to overcome his
own fears associated with what it was he was trying to do was his
chief task. I'd say his words sum up the advice of the Hanging Man at
this Solar Eclipse quite clearly.
