New Moon in Gemini 2020:: Sleight of Hand

Our new lunar phase in Gemini kicks off on May 22 at 1:39 PM EDT. The Sun and Moon are positioned rather nicely. Each are still hanging on to a trine from Saturn newly Rx in Aquarius. However, the ruler of this Moon, Mercury, along with Venus Rx still hang in square to Neptune in Pisces. Mars, our third “personal” planet, resides with the fishes, too.
For me, Neptune in any chart means increased potential for vulnerability in a lot of ways. Wash your hands. Be wary of known allergies and know that you are going to “catch” things more easily. “Things” meaning germs, feelings, whiffs, other people's energies, stray ghosts... That a standard precaution I issue in readings when Neptune is coming on strong. I also advise that You cannot fist fight Neptune. You WANT TO! But, his waves will eventually wear you down until you cannot struggle. You are forced to surrender to the tides...the flow...that which cannot be controlled.
I am of the opinion that Neptune increases permeability of all our systems. What I mean by that is, we grow more sensitive. Not just in ways of the emotional but also in physical ways. Psychic ways. Spiritual ways. Neptune's waters flow through the cracks in our boundaries. Slowly eroding and washing away their edges. Blurring our energies with those present around us and the edges of reality.

Plus, Neptune's influence can put us at risk of unconscious behaviors. The latter of which I pin on the tandem Pluto influence. Pluto and Neptune have been in sextile for a long time. If there is a major aspect from one there is some kind of aspect from the other. They work together in many ways. When Neptune puts our unconscious actions, feelings, thoughts into play without our awareness in the material world, they are often the result of something Plutonic. So, not only are our all our systems more permeable and vulnerable at this New Moon; but, we are also at risk of allowing shadow to lead our hearts, minds and actions. Channeling sleeping parts of ourselves right into reality.
On individual levels, we rarely realize these things are taking place. But, funny thing about Neptune, he obscures our own view of something but makes it rather noticeable to the outside world. Caveat of that in these days, no one is immune or exempt from the potential. While we may be acting out shadow issues, Neptune also creates upon our visage a mirror through which other people will be working out their own shit. None of us will be fully aware as it occurs. We are all thinking we are interacting with one another when, really, it will be very difficult to see past the psychological fog of our own darn selves. As if we were trapped in a hall of mirrors. The Magician laughs...jokes on us.

Welcome to the season of Gemini. For the next couple of years, the North Node will hold residence here. On the North Node's journey, the syllabus will fluctuate syncing in tune to the swift movements of it's ruler, Mercury. At this, the official genesis of learning to work with the trickster, the magician, the riddler and the chatty butterfly, we are going to learn the ways in which our own minds, eyes, hearts and hands can play tricks on us.
The sign of Gemini is known for it's duality. Represented by the twins, it comes with the adages, “there are two sides to every coin;” “two edges to every sword;” “two sides of every story;” and sometimes...especially when Venus is involved, the mirror has more than one face as does the subject of reflection.
Gemini's nature is light and changeable. Answering to the element of Air, it brings focus to the voice, the lungs, breath and the mind. It's duality is often joked about. Some referring to the “good” twin versus the “evil” twin. Heard referenced in regard to it's fickleness and changeability. This is not unlike the duality found in the nature of Pisces, represented by the two fish. Let me tell you, when you are facing times in which changes must be accommodated, Gemini is a dude you want on your team. The adaptability of Gemini energy is astounding. The sign is equipped with ever reaching curiosity about what it is that may come next instead. What can they learn next? They cannot wait to tell all their friends about what they have just discovered!

The shift from Taurus into Gemini, causes energy to lighten which is always a welcomed relief. It's mutations births us from the tender buds of spring into the growing heat of summer in the Northern hemisphere. Taking life on that side of the planet and setting it free to dance. It's pure magic. Some of the tricks of the magician are that way. Gemini is the embodiment of “many” but I've not experienced it to be an energy that commonly turns cruel. It does things for laughs. To tell a story. To make a point. To show us the fallacy in our thinking. To keep us from taking ourselves so seriously. Mercurians love the machinations of the mind and the magic of words. And, yes, they usually have a trick or two up their sleeves.
Gemini is the Magician. Have you ever been to a magic show? I used to love watching them. David Copperfield all the way to Cris Angel. My fascination started when my older cousin received a magic kit when we were kids. He had a table set up to perform his tricks. The whole shebang. Black hat. Plastic Magic wand. I wasn't allowed to play with his kit nor know how the tricks were done. I had to be in the audience like everyone else. I absolutely hated every notion of that. I have Mercury in Scorpio..lol. I cannot stand a secret. I also have Moon in Pisces, I 100% believed in magic. Still do! But, in my young mind, my cousin had the keys to the secrets of magic and was selfishly keeping them from me. I was PISSED!

So, I went to work. Watching every move he made. Hiding behind doors when he practiced. Looking very closely at his toolkit when he was not looking. My curiosity in regard to how it is magic could come from Hills (A department store back then) in a little cardboard box with a few plastic pieces in it and bestow someone JUST BARELY A YEAR OLDER THAN ME with the powers of a Magician was driving me absolutely nuts. I was about 7. Well. By the time my cousin was all ready, dressed with his black hat in front of a fold out plastic table, I was ready too. After each one of his tricks and our family's “ooh's and ah's”...I'd bust him out. My typically very calm and logical Virgo cousin was furious. He didn't understand that figuring out how it was done only made me admire him more because his freaking technique in pulling that stuff off WAS the magic! Not the trick! He was flawless. Both of our Mercurian natures made themselves known that day. Our inner Magician's appeared. No one noticed.

As the North Node travels through Gemini and especially during this initial phase, while we have so many bodies in the sign along with the fact that Mercury will also enter his Rx shadow on June 2 AND due the fact the introduction of this season occurs with Mars, Venus and Mercury all under the veil of Neptune...there's a chance to meet your inner Magician too. You can discover how your own mind may play tricks on you or how it is your thinking can be manipulated to catch you off guard leaving room for a successful act of sleight of hand.
For such an atmosphere, we have been given a very appropriate guide at this lunation...the Seven of Swords.

Trickery (perhaps even some self-deception) is afoot. From whence it comes, we cannot be sure. But, where your mind goes with that is most certainly all about you. We aren't sure what to think. What to feel. What to do. Venus Rx is dredging up things from our past and putting them in front of the lens of our personal perspective for various reasons. We aren't sure what is safe. Who is friend. Who is foe. What is true. What is not. And, on top of that, we are uncertain of ourselves. Unmoored like a ship cut loose from the dock drifting aimlessly out to sea. In some instances, its as if we've woken up in entirely different worlds...with a whole new set of realizations, fears, worries, wonderings and questions.
We are unsure of our own world. Unsure of many of the people we may have thought we knew. But, if you listen....if you really, really listen to what is being said over and above the word choice, you will hear the truth. Nobody has the answers. And that's scary. As result of that fear, we are responding in a variety of ways.

Most people think that fear is something that causes you to hide in a corner or under the bed. Fight or fligh is how the response is often described. But, the human response to fear takes many forms. Uncertainty is something that will stoke that feeling up right quick. Some folks use humor to placate their fear. Some dig for information to offset the uncertainty..find the advice they resonate with the most and start shouting it from the tops of their lungs or repeat it over and over to assuage their fear. Some people get angry, irritable and lash out. The sounds we make are different. But, the message of fear is the same. In my opinion, it is also justified. We collectively are not ourselves right now. We are not hearing what we think we are hearing. We are not seeing what we think we are seeing. On top of that, we've had to become expert fact checkers just to read or watch sources of information that we grew up trusting. We have grown ever more fearful within that dynamic because we don't know who to trust or who to listen to. The residual frustration of that playing in various form too.

Our confusion and fatigue is captured within this New Moon. Unlike me prior to my cousin's magic act, we've not been given the opportunity to do our research and discover the machinations of the sleight of hand that was used in the trick of the Magician (North Node in Gemini) as his curtain opened. From here, we can begin to pull back the curtain. To inspect the tools. To assess how it is our eyes were led to certain places at certain times so that we ended up missing the sleight of hand. If we can train ourselves to listen beyond words, to observe resisting the urge to jump to conclusion or judgment, to see past what is visible, to listen to the nature of the way we think and talk to ourselves, even...we may be better able to understand what we are dealing with and what it is we need to do on more personal levels.
What is given to us to do as individuals is going to be diffuse and vary greatly. In order to perceive the whole of it, we must step back and observe refusing to get sucked into the show. Watching the periphery. Being unseen. Unheard. Taking notes. Seeking to learn what is hidden both within and without. Seeing who moves what where and when...as timing is crucial in the world of the Magician. At the same time, we are given opportunity to also observe ourselves. Take a step back and watch where your thinking is prone to go. Say less. Listen more. See if you can hear what the person talking is REALLY saying to you. Beyond their words. Watch what they do. Remember the dual nature of Gemini...flip the coin over, seek out the other side of the story, watch out for the 2nd sharp edge to that sword.

Train your ears to listen...your eyes to watch...to really see what it is that is going on around you. Keep yourself quiet so that you do not influence what unfolds thus are able to take the whole of it in. One way I've found to practice this in my world is by learning about birdsong. Our home is not too far away from the main road of our town. It's not a particularly busy thoroughfare. But, there is traffic noise. However, the home sits far enough off the road that we have a nice variety of birds visitng our feeders. There is one particular birdsong I hear all the time but have been unable to identify. My curiosity about that led me toward trying to identify more of our bird visitors by their calls. What I've found is that by tuning into the birdsong in my yard....the traffic noises disappear. It's pure magic. As if an entirely new auditory world opened up. But you have to be still. Quiet. Motionless and ever watchful.
Be willing to see, hear and understand in a different way. Observe the show. Learn everything you can. But, don't get all caught up in the trick itself...pull your perspective out a little so you can see beyond the stage. That's where you will discover the secret of the Magician's sleight of hand.
