New Moon in Sagittarius: Bring Me to Life

From the dark cave of Scorpio arises Sagittarius. It always makes me think of times in which we endure hit after extraordinary hit until we reach the point of delirium and devolve into laughter even though it is probably not the socially appropriate response to what is happening.
That's very similar to the way I see Sagittarius laden folks in general. They are known for their smart assery, their comedy, their wisdom, their big infectious laugh. Among other things. I appreciate that about them. But, I also know it is not the light giggly type of champagne bubbles that come from their polar opposite of Gemini. Sagittarius has usually seen some shit, dude. Heavy. Dark. Most seem to have reached that point of crazed delirium to a degree.

I have learned a great deal on a personal level from Sagittarius. Contrary to their boisterous reputation, it was a Sagittarius who taught me that sometimes silence is the best response. To let someone's words hit absolute dead air. The same Sag also taught me to add a little lemon juice to my water when I poach chicken to make it nice and shred-able for chicken salad..in case you think the centaurs can't cook. Some of the best cooks I've met in my life had a healthy dose of Sagittarius in some form. Another Sag taught me how to deal with my anger. “Push yourself back in your chair and laugh when they say something that sets you off. They will either think you are absolutely crazy or laugh with you,” he chirped through his wide smile. Every bit of the above being worthy lessons for me to learn. Sagittarius was my very first friend on this planet. My favorite boss. The best coworker. My absolute worst nightmare when in search of compatibility and monogamy in a relationship....but, also the most fun I ever had during the same.
From the sign of Sagittarius we inherit things like gratitude, generosity, a sense of humor, showmanship, the bursting forth of celebration after having survived death throes all around us, wisdom, temperance and believe it or not, at it's best, a sense of humility. It goes wrong when we place too much emphasis on our own greatness believing it sets us apart from the rest of the world in some special or exalted kind of way. When we believe ourselves to be super-human or saviors of the whole world. When we miss out on the beauty of sharing due our own fear and, instead, devolve into selfish gluts. When we demand to be the only one in the spotlight. When we allow our humor to turn toward pushing others down instead of helping them stand back up. Fear ruins a lot of things and is the root of all evil when we are talking about the Sagittarius. At their best, they laugh in the face in fear.
For the most part, the Jupiter children are fairly easy to spot. Especially those with the sign rising. There is a glow and this big wide smile that cannot be missed with these folks. And, even if you can't see them, just hearing them laugh will clue you in. It's unmistakable. There is magic in the laughter of a Sagittarius. A boldness and daring mixed with just a touch of restlessness. I have a friend who has been in my life for decades. Aries Sun. Cancer Moon. Sagittarius rising. She could be telling me she just got hit by a bus and nearly died...and she would tell the story with a smile on her face. That's something else that they are wonderful with...story telling. Complete with self-animation. My friend is a journalist, by the way.
The lead in to this New Moon includes a square from the Sun to Neptune in Pisces (12/5), a trine from Mercury to the nodal axis (12/4) and the Moon in Scorpio bouncing off of the entire sky...including Mercury in direct station while still in trine to the nodal axis on the evening of 12/5. Then, on the 6th, the Moon bumps into Jupiter in the morning as Mercury turns direct that evening. I see a very clear “aha” moment there that is blurred once again by the Moon's incoming square to Mars and Neptune just prior to this new lunar cycle's official commencement.
The New Moon is in orb of this square to Neptune and Mars. But, it wanes by then. There is ambiguity, fatigue, confusion all funneling into the balsamic period. Yet, like a Polaroid, the picture will develop (albeit slowly) as we pass through this Moon cycle. We will emerge from the fog. Figures in hazy shadows on the horizon will begin to take a more solid shape. We will start to wake up with the realization that we have survived the Hell we just came through. In our pockets, we will find nuggets of wisdom attached to memory and experience.

We have lived. We have learned. So, now what? My suggestion is to use whatever your answer is to the latter as your intention. Your “now what?” becomes “and so it shall be.”
Our Tarot Guide for this New Moon seems a little less than celebratory. I drew the Death card. Which points to Scorpio more than it does the sign of the Archer. We aren't wholly out of that tunnel yet. Mercury and Venus...our hearts and minds..are still lingering in amongst the graves. Frozen and zombie-like...still half in a state of shock. But, if you throw the concept of Death at most Sagittarians, they are just going to smile at you and say something like, “Yes. And this is why we must live and laugh while we can.” Sagittarius looks back at the swamp of Scorpio he just crawled out of knowing that he may have survived it out of sheer luck or by the skin of his own teeth declaring, “Heh, yeah...no need to go back THERE again...let's set our trajectory on seeing what else is out there. Let's make that Hell a good story but with a 'stick a fork in it, done' kind of ending, k?”
Of course, Sagittarians glean their lessons from experience and are able to re-animate the story upon request adding a few extra giggles and twists and turns with each re-telling. But, otherwise, the door is shut on that morbid tale. Sagittarian eyes face forward. With Mercury now direct, we can move on too. With Venus retracing her retrograde shadow and past her third opposition with Uranus, we can focus on allowing her to restore and regenerate herself. And, with Jupiter now in his domicile we can stop glorifying the dark and explore new territory with luck and guardian angels at our sides.
But. You have to let the thing die first. And that “thing” I speak of? It's likely exhumed for us in horrific full color view as we walk through the balsamic Moon period. You have to be willing to turn it back over into the soil and let it go. You have to be willing to turn your face from the darkness and be brave enough to turn toward the light.

Sagittarius is the fire of the Phoenix. A fire we eventual learn to temper and direct. It is the inspiration and faith that built the prophet, the sage and the philosopher. That beautiful light of survival that emerges from the gravestones of Scorpio. The part of us that is eternal and survives even death. The soul, the spirit, the energy, the essence of us that endures even after Death. We carry with us the fact that Death is non-discriminatory and we were all sent here to meet with him eventually. Turn around and shut the door tight on whatever it is you just survived. Then, about face with a grin toward the new sunrise making bold your declarations for how you now shall LIVE until it's your turn to meet with him. Spin your memories of survival into stories of adventure sharing what it is you have learned while eventually coming to a point where you can rob that past trial of it's power through laughter. Rise on the bubbles of that joyous desire to live...to experience...to drink it all in because, next time, when death comes we may not win. But this time, pilgrim, you have been SAVED! Redeemed! Sing out in all your glory. Bring yourself back to life. Be that hero to yourself that you've been waiting on. Share. Laugh. Embrace joy. Because about the only mistake you can make here is believing that you have to go back to that cave you just crawled out of or that you always have tomorrow to begin again. All we have, friends, is this moment, this breath, this second on the clock. Live it and learn from it before all the sands run out.
