Morning Star: Daily Astrology for January 1, 2014

Happy New Year! You know, I'm such a geek. When I write the Morning Star entries, I save each one in a folder labeled according to what month it is. I always get excited to start a new folder for a new month. Today, I started a new folder for a new month in a bigger folder for an entire new year! My Venus in Virgo is doing flip flops right now.
this is a note my Venus in Virgo left for my Pisces Moon on my work desk

Not only because of this but because it's new calendar time! It's the time of year when I go through all the “important” papers of the year gone past and put them in a file folder. I usually operate with several different calendars throughout the year. One for my work here, one for my personal diary entries and transits and one for the household where I keep track of bills and what have you. I read through each of them before putting them away for the year and beginning new ones. I have to operate this way though. I have a forgetful Pisces Moon and if I didn't keep meticulous track of myself, I'd be completely lost. Thankfully, though, my Venus in Virgo drools over getting organized. It's a great compensatory planetary placement for my otherwise day dreamy emotional body. That Venus is certainly drooling now as I'm throwing stuff away, re-purposing and recycling, smelling the new school supplies. Yes...if that smell were a perfume I'd wear it. If it were a candle, I'd buy it. GEEK!

As it turns out, though, what my Venus is joyfully diving into is also very conducive to what our incoming Full Moon in Cancer could be calling us to do. At least, on a minor level. See, my Venus is at 14 degrees Virgo...in sextile to the Full Moon and in trine to the Sun in Capricorn. Part of this Full Moon's job is very much connected to a purge in the home place or even a reclamation of home spaces. So, indeed, this is a great time to be pro-active about sweeping the doorways clean...so to speak. I was organizing our food storage containers when my husband walked in and I declared to him, “This is what FUN looks like!” And, I meant it.

Oh, at any rate. On the first day of this brand New Year, we wake up to the Moon in Taurus. At 7:20 AM, she meets Venus in Capricorn by trine before reaching Void status. It's not a very ambitious morning and it would be a good idea to take things a little slow.

By 12:10 PM the Moon is in Gemini and waxing toward an opposition with Saturn in Sagittarius which perfects at 1:54 PM. Talk about a buzz kill. This aspect certainly sounds like one. My focus on Saturn's early passage in Sagittarius is on our folks with early heavy mutable energy in their charts. This is mainly because these folks have just passed through a VERY long transit from Neptune where things were inevitably fogged up or confused in some way. And, now...here comes Saturn threatening to shore a lot of that up right out of the gate. He moves only to 4 degrees Sagittarius before turning retrograde and moving back into Scorpio for a short time. Given that Neptune has been in Pisces for a couple of years and is only at 5 degrees now, then folks with early mutable planets may receive quite a wake up call within these next few months. Also due for a wake up call are our early Neptune in Sag generation. I'm lucky enough to fall into both of these categories with Neptune at 3 Sagittarius and my Moon at 5 Pisces. I plan to use some of the energy coming to me from this transit to remodel a boat. Sounds reasonable and safe enough.

The opposition from the Moon to Saturn today, though, reminds me of a bunch of school kids chatting in class who keep butting heads with a teacher who just wants them to shut up and listen to their lessons. In that, there is a bit of censorship and a call to not only talk but also to listen. There is also a call for fact checking before you go off running your mouth about the latest thing that bopped onto your newsfeed, too. “I read it on the Internet” is no longer a way to cite a valid resource. Nope.

By 2:50 PM, Mars in Aquarius is in opposition to Jupiter in Leo. Perhaps the children in the classroom refused to settle down and pay attention so the teacher sent them to the principal's office. Or maybe we are inspired to do something grand...big...over the top. Either way, this transit is filled with energy and enthusiasm. We may figure out a unique way to go about doing something (Mars in Aquarius) and be enormously proud of ourselves (Jupiter in Leo) in light of that. Or, maybe we are overly confident (Jupiter in Leo) and did something screwy and impulsive (Mars in Aquarius) that pisses a bunch of people off (Mars in Aquarius). Maybe it's discovered that it was a really smart kid (Jupiter in Leo) behind the recent internet hacks (Mars in Aquarius). Headlines could read “Brilliant 6 year old takes down Sony, Playstation Network and North Korean Internet on Mom's Ipad.” LOL..you never know.

By 10:08 PM, the Moon in Gemini is in square to Neptune bringing a glazed look to our nighttime hours. Falling asleep watching the news comes to mind.

What a fickle day. It starts slow and then as soon as we get our wheels moving we run into Saturn. We get up, dust ourselves off and are determined to take action. Then, we forget what it was we were so motivated to do in the first place because...”OH LOOK! There are squirrels on TV!” Sounds about right. Gemini Moons are flexible like that switching from mood to mood in a matter of mere minutes sometimes. So, if you don't like how midday feels, hang in there! A different mood weather front is coming soon to change things up by tonight.

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 31, 2014

I've been peering a bit into 2015 this morning and it looks rather interesting! I've not put meaning to any of it yet. But, March and April are definitely WOW months. March, particularly. First, we are in a groove right now of 0 degree New Moons followed by a series of 14 degree Full Moons. That dynamic swings in Aquarius season as we experience 2 New Moons in the sign. After that little hiccup, a Full Moon in any given sign will precede the New Moon in that sign (reversed of what we have going on right now).

A few of my references call out 2 New Moons in Pisces instead of Aquarius. Either way, one of those ambiguous New Moon's (whether you call it at 29 Aquarius or 0 Pisces) occurs on February 18. The next New Moon (in Pisces) is an eclipse on March 20 at 29 degrees. That eclipse follows a series of very interesting aspects including the final Uranus/Pluto square on March 16th. And, there is NO New Moon in Capricorn this year. It doesn't occur until 2016 (January 10, 2016 at 19 degrees). At the very least, it is all very interesting and perhaps a bit overwhelming to attempt to take in with one gulp.

Today, however, is New Year's Eve! We are ushering 2014 out and welcoming in the tender New Year. As we wake this morning, the Moon in Taurus is in trine with Pluto in Capricorn (5:29 AM). We are determined with a sense of emotional depth and grounding on the last day of this year. That determination and fortitude is aimed at healing and overcoming as the Moon also meets Chiron by sextile at 6:35 AM. That sextile also softens us a bit bringing empathy and overall concern for the well being of all.

By 7:52 PM, the Moon squares off with Mars in Aquarius (21 degrees). Mars is motivated for change and social reform while the Moon wants to relax. But, the tension from this aspect could temper some of the possible impulsiveness from Mars. Taurus energy is grounded and doesn't move quickly whereas Mars rides lightening bolts from Aquarius. Though the mix can bring forth ambiguity, it could also keep us from acting too erratically. I'm not saying that is comfortable. It's kind of a downer sometimes, actually. But, it is probably safer in most instances.

By 9:05 PM, the Moon is in square to Jupiter in Leo who is ALSO at 21 degrees and retrograde. That's a fixed t-square folks. Mars is moving in to oppose Jupiter and the Moon is squaring them both. Tomorrow at 2:50 PM, Mars opposite Jupiter meets perfection just after the Moon opposes Saturn (0 degrees) from Gemini.
One of the things we need to be wary of during our celebrations tonight is excess. We will be prone to take in TOO MUCH and that comes back to visit (haunt) us tomorrow under the Moon/Saturn opposition.

Saturn in Sagittarius will temper “excess” to a degree. Gluttony gets smacked around from time to time under this transit.

Now, what this fixed t-square is good for on New Year's Eve is tempering the push to overdo with a bit of common sense brought forth from the Taurus Moon. It keeps Mars in Aquarius in opposition to Jupiter in Leo anchored. The missing leg of this t-square is in Scorpio. That means if you have planets between 19 and 23 Scorpio, then, that planet will be involved in a fixed cross with these planets. Eros at 22 degrees Aquarius is right in this mix and being approached by a conjunction from Mars...which sounds kind of sexy if you ask me.
Mars in Aquarius

If the negative potential for Jupiter in Leo is overconfidence and the negative potential from Mars in Aquarius is impulsiveness with the negative potential from Taurus Moon being stubbornness, then this fixed t-square could play out as someone being hell bent on doing something they are SURE they can pull off and there isn't a soul on the planet that can talk them out of it. However, if the positive expression of Mars in Aquarius is pioneering for social causes and the positive expression of Jupiter in Leo is generosity and benevolence then the grounded affect from the Moon in Taurus could foster some serious charitable donations at the end of the year. I mean, it is a tax write-off after all and Taurus is down with that (missing leg, Scorpio/taxes/debt/energy exchange). It's also a great mix for gathering together to pray in the New Year which is a tradition to some.

With Eros so close to this t-square, whatever we are driven to do may seem particularly alluring and hard to resist. But, keep that opposition from the Moon to Saturn waxing in tomorrow in mind while being tempted to keep you from doing something you may later regret. Or not. You only live once right? LOL...sure.

Here's the thing. I want to tell you to party like it is 1999. And, in most instances, you should...within reason. But, keep your eyes open and be cautious in regard to what is going on around you because even if you are expressing the higher forms of this energy, there is some serious explosive potential in this mix. Mars in opposition to Jupiter can also be someone pushing a personal agenda under the guise of social activism. It could be something connected to religious beliefs or on behalf of religious beliefs. Plus, Demetra George describes Eros (who, as mentioned, is right in this mix) as “representing the principle of passionate desire. Eros was a primal phallic god born of Chaos at the beginning of time. Embodying the masculine sexual force, he served as the generative masculine power which brought the world into creation.” Further, she says, “Eros functions as the higher octave of Mars.” So, his presence here brings pressure to Mars to transform and overcome himself by creating instead of destroying. But in that mix is phallic drive and allurance that first must be transcended in an effort to get to that higher octave and not everyone will go beyond that to get there. People definitely respond differently under pressure. Pressure is certainly present.
Eros and Psyche

In addition to that, George says Eros transits are good timing indicators of sexual activity. His partner, Psyche, is in early Pisces. The positive end of that is a transcendental love affair. The negative looks a lot like someone unknowingly consuming a date rape drug. So, be careful and aware of your surroundings especially if you are in a densely populated place. Travel with a trusted partner. Personally, I'd opt for private parties if I were geared toward going out to celebrate.

Instead of getting all twerked out of shape due to phallic overdrive and an overblown ego, RELAX! Celebrate safely and within reason while making good memories that could very well last a lifetime...you know, ones you can actually remember because you weren't too sloshed. Party like it's 1999 but Let's NOT Go Crazy...

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 30, 2014

Ahhh, Moon in Taurus. You know, it's my favorite time of the month. I'm sure the Moon placed here is troublesome for some folks. But, for me, it is pure bliss. Plus, with the Sun in Capricorn, we hit a sweet spot through trine from the Moon to the Sun later today (10:41 PM).

Before the Moon dances harmoniously with the Sun, though, she meets Neptune by sextile at 3:30 PM. Remember the ambition from the last two days? Where did it go? Do we care?

Moon in sextile to Neptune from Taurus is soft, rich and relaxing. Talk about a great day for a midday nap! Or a massage...or a soak in a nice bubbly warm bath...or a manicure/pedicure...or indulging in whatever kind of luscious self-pampering escape that you choose. Mercury also makes an inconjunct to Jupiter around the same time. So, we could be met with a notion that says, “Relax. Everything is going to be alright.” And, we could very well follow that notion.

This is a day for finding gratitude in regard to what we have right now moreso than fostering ambition toward what it is we want. This is the day where we assess how much we have endured and how much we have worked and decide, “You know, I deserve an easy day.” Hopefully an easy relaxed day is what this Moon will deliver to us.

But, you know there is always potential for a negative spin. People could really dig their heels in today and refuse to budge even when they need to. However, the overall energy is Earthy and comfortable bringing forth a desire to indulge in Earthy and tangible pleasures. So, make sure you have the right kind of carrot on the end of your stick if you are tempting someone to move. Or, give up on the struggle and let sleeping cows lie.

It's a great day to be leisurely. I'll be using it to make sweet goodies for New Year's Eve festivities. Cupcakes, particularly...because, I like cupcakes and so does this Moon which hangs actively with us all the way through to the 1st when she finally goes Void following a trine with Venus at 7:20 AM. Prepare to ring the New Year in on a sweet, rich and optimistic note. Take this opportunity to relax. We hit the ground running in several directions at once, again, soon enough. Get well grounded and on solid ground in preparation for what follows this Moon. You'll thank yourself for it later.

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 29, 2014

This morning we wake up to a busy Moon in Aries waxing into sextile with her current ruler, Mars in Aquarius. This aspect perfects at 10:55 AM. I see big pontifications about plans forward being made here. We feel the need to initiate and move through our Moon in Aries. Mars in Aquarius gets behind that need and supports moving forward smartly. Here's the thing, though. Aquarius is an Air sign. Sometimes when Mars is in an Air sign, there is a lot of thinking about what needs to be done or talking about what needs to be done but very little actual action. Sometimes, even, Mars in Air folks will mistake talking about doing something for actually doing it. Plus, Aquarius can over think and make things too complicated. Actions can be stalled by this trait. Either way, this aspect can really make us feel motivated. Just don't forget to actually act on that motivation and don't get caught up in the details.

Getting caught up in the details is a possibility with the Moon also meeting Mercury in Capricorn by square. This is the aspect that will bring practicality to our pontifications under Moon/Mars. We could hear discouragement from the outside world at this time too. This discouragement could come from unwanted critiques of our plans or someone simply saying, “There is no way that is going to work.” This could also be an internally fostered critique in which we doubt the potential in our planned actions. It makes me think of Schrodinger's Cat...perhaps because I have watched too much of the “Big Bang Theory.” But, still, the analogy fits. You don't know whether the cat is alive or dead until you open the box. You don't know if your plans will work or not until you give it a try!

Mercury in Capricorn in square to Moon in Aries can also bring a good dose of practicality to ambition. (It can also give you a headache, btw. So, if you are prone to those, take whatever preventative measures you need.) It's up to us to decide what is true practicality and what is doubt fostered by fear. We walk a bit of a tight rope in that regard. In order to stay on the rope, we must right ourselves through balancing against fear/doubt and over criticism while staying on the thin line of practicality and good sense.
Hi, I'm Josi Case

It's a good idea to stay on that tight rope too. Confidence is restored to our ambitious Moon through a trine to Jupiter in Leo at 3:39 PM. This can give us the inspiration to move forward or steer us into overconfidence and a self-righteous stance toward nay-sayers. Temper that. Be humble and wise instead of greedy and overly sure of yourself. Listen to what others have to say and take those words into consideration but move forward based on what you know you can do and what you feel is right. Remember there are always at least a few stumbles on the paths we choose. Trust yourself to be able to navigate through those stumbles without allowing this energy to push you into over confidence. Moon to Jupiter can foster that sense of self-trust as well.

By 7:47 PM, the Moon is squaring off with Venus in Capricorn. Has it been a long day or what? Yes, it has. And, this aspect can either bring a desire to burn the midnight oil or finally give things up for the day. Venus in Capricorn is all business but mixtures of the Moon and Venus (in any sign) can bring a desire to rest and/or indulge. With Venus in Capricorn, those indulgences could be geared toward resting upon the fruits of our labors or a desire to keep working for more fruits. My recommendation here is to lay work to rest for the day under this aspect. The Moon is Void after its perfection in square to Venus until entering Taurus at 5:57 AM tomorrow.

As the Moon enters Taurus, ambition is replaced with diligent forward plodding. Lunar Mars energy gives way to Lunar Venus energy and there is a significant change of heart brought forth from that type of shift. Plus, we move from a Fire Moon to an Earth Moon bringing grounding and practicality to the equation. We may even realize...”Hey, most of the world is on vacation right now! Maybe we should take a break too and settle in for the New Year! Maybe we should bake a cake! Or maybe someone should!”

This is an ambitious day. But, by the end of it, we could really be in need of a break. Moon moving into Taurus will give us the opportunity for that. Until then, don't be afraid to take action even if your plans seem a bit quirky. They may be so crazy that they actually work. You'll never know, though, if you don't try. In some instances, may be beneficial to just shut your mouth about your plans and act on them. Then, when someone says, “That's not going to work” you can politely tell them, “Don't believe me? Just watch.”

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 28, 2014

I was browsing around the Internet and ran across a discussion on Saturn in Sagittarius on Facebook a few days ago. I'm prompted to talk about it today because this morning, we wake up to a Moon in Aries just leaving a trine with the newly placed planet. First, let me say that Moon to Saturn by trine is A-OK in my book. This water Moon appreciates the grounding offered by this aspect. Second, this aspect occurring from Aries to Sagittarius, reminds me of a child testing and discovering boundaries in a new environment. To me, this is a partial job of Saturn in Sagittarius.

As Saturn dredged through Scorpio, knowledge was revealed that changed our understanding. In that change, boundaries and rules were altered. Now, we are re-born with Saturn in Sagittarius and part of our job is to learn and explore these new boundaries, possibly even creating some new ones for ourselves.

The last pass of Saturn in Scorpio, I was helping my parents renovate a home they had just purchased. This was an old home that didn't even have indoor plumbing. So, there was a lot of gutting and tearing out that had to be done. Quite a worthy activity for Saturn in Scorpio, I think.

When Saturn moved into Sagittarius, my parents and I moved into our newly updated home and that caused me to have to change schools. The timing of the move meant I would be a High School Freshman relocated to a town right down the river from where I grew up. Just so happens, the new school and my old school were neighboring rivals. Not only was being a student in high school a new thing for me. The whole school, kids, teachers everything was foreign. I was a stranger in a strange land. Not only that, but in my life experience, this new land had been colored as housing the “enemy.” The only thing I knew about it was what I had learned from the friction produced between the rivaling entities. The first thing I had to learn is where the boundaries were, what the rules were and the customs of the new natives I was encountering. I had to drop what I had been told and figure out how things really were on my own. Well, the first thing I had to learn, really, was where the bus stop was...but, I think you catch my drift.

At any rate, Saturn in Sagittarius is like that. Aries is new starts, new cycles, initiative and raw ambition. So, in trine to Saturn in Sagittarius, it's like we are thrust into this new situation and tasked with discovery. It's not a harsh energy. But, experiencing a new environment can be exciting or anxiety ridden depending on your perspective. Plus, discovering new rules and boundaries doesn't mean that you will adhere to them. It just means you become aware of where they are. That point is driven home later in the day as the Moon finds Uranus by conjunction at 11:20 PM. But, we've got a day full of lunar aspects to get through before we ever experience that aspect.

By 1:33 PM, the Aries Moon is in square to the Sun in Capricorn creating our First Quarter Moon. From here, emotions will build straight through to the Full Moon in Cancer (which is a biggie, folks!) on January 5th. The tension brought today brings conflict between initiating, pioneering energy and the status quo, or “How things have always been done.”

On a lunar level, we need to initiate and move forward in new directions. But, on a solar level, our ego's may fear change especially if it is perceived as a threat to our ego's status or personal sense of power. If you can get behind the change, though, Sun in Capricorn can really take charge and monopolize upon the opportunities presented. In that, we build new rules for a new business model while discovering the existing boundaries at the same time.

In between the First Quarter and the Moon's conjunction with Uranus, there are several interesting minor aspects that perfect. Both the Sun and the Moon meet Jupiter in Leo by sesquisquare at around the same time (Moon at 1:37 PM and Sun at 2:25 PM). One of the ways I managed to navigate “all the new” with my changing schools experience dealt with drawing upon the knowledge I had already acquired both about myself and kids my age. I also had a base of knowledge in regard to how local schools operate and, of course, I knew the local customs and norms. I wasn't in a totally new country even if it felt that way. This “acquired wisdom” and “experience” is available to us today through these minor aspects. It plays a huge part in how the harsher aspects by the Moon are felt later tonight.

If we are curious and flexible, then we can meet the new with acquired wisdom as one of our tools. However, if the Jupiter energy prompts a feeling of grandiosity or we become full of ourselves, then our decisions when under pressure are affected by that too. If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, “It's better to volunteer for a dose of humility than to have it force fed to you.” So, aiming for the more beneficial expression of Sun and Moon to Jupiter is an imperative for this day to play out to its highest potential.

As the Moon meets Uranus by conjunction and Pluto by square (00:20 AM), we've discovered some new rules and we've discovered some areas that still need overhaul. We may decide that some of the new rules are worth breaking. Pluto in Capricorn could certainly hold us accountable should we decide to act on that.

Some people, not that I know any, like to break rules or push boundaries just for the fun of it. That type of mischievousness is not supported under this sky. However, working with those that are in charge in an effort to make mindful changes that need to be made for the benefit of all IS supported. If you ARE the person in charge, then connecting with the group that you are presiding over and discussing options with them instead of just making decisions on your own and enforcing rules, is the way to go. So, if selfishness, ego inflation, a desire to play pranks or be a court jester wax in with our luminaries' minor aspects to Jupiter, then we could very well feel some harsh backlash later tonight. However, if we look at the situation honestly and delineate what has worked in the past versus what didn't while coming together in groups WITH this collective acquired knowledge in an effort to foster deliberate change that benefits everyone, then progress can certainly be made.

Overall, this day has the potential to bear a signature of intensity. Thankfully, though, we start off well grounded under the trine from Saturn. HOLD ON TO THAT! It will serve you well as the day moves forward.

Tomorrow is another adventurous day filled with a variety of lunar aspects followed by a nearly 12 hour VOC Moon. Set your pace accordingly.

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 27, 2014

This morning we wake up to the Moon in Pisces. At 10:45 AM she meets Venus in Capricorn by sextile and, together, they create a Yod with Jupiter in Leo. Our emotional body and what we want work together today. Both are products of self-discovery. Our ability to self-nuture (Moon in Pisces) assists us to be realistic and responsible with with our desires (Venus in Capricorn) which in turn helps us to become more wise (Jupiter in Leo). Or, we avoid our emotions and become an endless sinking pit of emotional need (Moon in Pisces) while feeling that what we want is restricted by some authoritative figure who controls all the cookies (Venus in Capricorn). So we become selfish and grab up all the cookies for ourselves out of greed, selfish self-concern and a belief that we are owed the cookies (Jupiter in Leo). OR it could simply be that we take a nap (Pisces Moon) and decide to relax a bit (Venus in Capricorn) because we deserve it (Jupiter in Leo)! If you have planets around 20-24 Capricorn, Pisces or Leo then this Yod carries the flavor of those planets as well making you personally invested.

And, get used to this flow. It's different and persists through January. Busy lunar days are grouped in pairs bringing little bursts of astrological energy followed by long periods of a VOC Moon. Here is a link to the VOC Moon periods of January. If you are keeping an astrological or Moon Diary, mark the dates of the VOC periods down. These will be the days you can earmark for rest, recuperation, integration and cleanup work.

After the sextile to Venus, the Moon is Void until entering Aries at 1:36 AM tonight. Rest today, kittens. Tomorrow brings in our First Quarter Moon and some heavy lunar activity. Get comfortable. Escape from outer world chaos and rest up for, tomorrow, we ride!

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 26, 2014

This morning, we wake up to the Moon in Pisces creating a nice sextile with our Sun in Capricorn at 6:47 AM. It's a smooth but sleepy day that also holds potential for emotionality and maybe a little grumpiness. The reason grumpiness stands out to me is due to the conjunction with Moon to Neptune at 7:51 AM. The potential for this rises if you have to be up and functional this morning and can't laze around. In other words, we may need a nap but can't get one and that equates to a big lump of GRUMP under a Pisces Moon. Some may have to go back to work today. With the Sun sextile the Moon, we are down with that except we may not be firing on all cylinders because we are overcoming illness or just freaking worn out from the holidays. Those scenarios can also equate to an influx of grump.

However, if you don't have to go back to work or if you can spend the day in your pajamas watching movies or napping, then Moon/Neptune may be satisfied allowing you to have a pretty restful morning sans le grumpe. Music and art hold a particular appeal today. There is potential for soft gentle quiet. It would be a perfect day for snow and soup, if you can stay in. This Moon/Neptune person loves to watch a quiet snowy day from inside where it is warm with a bowl of soup.

By 8:47 PM, the Moon is in a hearty sextile with Pluto in Capricorn. Emotions deepen and there is a strong push to purge any lingering tears in an effort to overcome. We could discover that our grumpines from the day is rooted more deeply than we thought. We are groggy, but, there is more. Yes, today could be remorseful or, at the least, a little watery. Moon to Pluto helps us endure the heaviness of that potential.

The Moon meets Chiron by conjunction at 9:49 PM. That watery conjunction is met with more watery potential as the Capricorn Sun is softened by a sextile to Neptune in Pisces at 10:11 PM.

We may feel the need to open up and talk about how we feel as the Moon also meets Mercury by sextile overnight (2:05 AM). Choose someone you trust and respect if you need to pour your heart out. Talking under Mercury in Capricorn can be a serious affair. But, even our Capricorn energy is softened and more permeable to water today.

The key to the day is gentleness and a bit of well metered empathy for those around us. Leave the grumps alone. Chances are they are dealing with more than just a simple case of the blues and need space to process whatever it is. If you ARE the grump, be gentle with yourself and use the day to slowly pontificate the deeper reasons of why you are upset. Use the power of music to guide you in your explorations. And, if you cannot find the words to express yourself, then use a different medium for self expression such as painting, sculpting or whatever calls to you. Be easy with yourself and others. Don't be afraid to check out of the crowd for awhile and check in with yourself through some alone time. Prayer. Meditation. Naps. Day dreaming. Drifting. Floating. Leave room for that.

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 25, 2014

Today, the Moon in Aquarius is Void after an opposition with Jupiter at 10:12 AM. The excitement of the morning wafts in and back out leaving us plenty of space to relax for the remainder of the day. Enjoyment is found in the simplicity of a child's point of view.

The Moon remains void until entering the sleepy waters of Pisces at 11:08 PM tonight. Sleep well, Santa's elves, we've wrapped up another holiday season.

Merry Christmas!

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 24, 2014

Mercury and his higher octave are the headline makers on this Christmas Eve. This morning we wake up to the Moon in Aquarius. Her first aspect, a sextile to Saturn, occurred at 9:57 PM last night. Her next, a sextile to Uranus, doesn't occur until 6:27 PM tonight. I don't know about anyone else, but it is obvious to me that the Lightning God is now direct and firing away. Some things are definitely breaking loose and opening up allowing light to shine through the crevices. Illumination has been restored. With the aspects from the Moon and Mercury to Uranus this evening, we are likely to witness some of those sparks.

Mercury squares off with his higher octave at 8:32 PM. This can cause pieces of information to fall together in a rapid “Aha!” moment. Or, we could hear some illuminating conversations in the outside world. There could be some blurting going on. And, this blurting could reveal things that the communicator did not intend to reveal. Mercury is also waxing into conjunction with Pluto which perfects at 1:51 AM. In between the square to Uranus and the conjunction to Pluto, the Moon meets Mars by conjunction at 11:37 PM.

On the upswing of this energy, this is a good time to gather around friends or community. Uranus and Mercury are both social. Uranus favors extended circles and connecting large groups of people. So, this evening would be fit for a gathering that included work mates, family, extended family and friends...a good solid mix of folks from all areas of your life. It would be a great night to come together for humanitarian efforts such as distributing food/goods collected for the holidays, visiting nursing homes or medical facilities, or simply reaching out with good intention toward your fellow human. It's a great night for trying new things, fostering new connections, collaborations and, even, social networking.

On the negative end, Mercury is pressurized. The square to Uranus could prompt surprising or shocking news that triggers or upsets others whether intentionally or by accident. Arguments could arise as a result of these aspects. Other (more negatively inclined) possibilities include motor vehicle accidents, increased awkwardness or clumsiness, internet security breaches, nervousness and/or anxiety and, of course, impulsiveness with potentially dire consequences.

Mercury in square to Uranus plays jump rope with the thin line between genius and madness. Is it genius? Or is it pure insanity? You will have to be the judge of that; but, either way, there are likely to be some interesting conversations happening by the end of the night. It's great for brainstorming collectively for solutions. At the same time, it's also great for mixing groups of people who have strong differing opinions and starting a small riot. The key to balancing it all, comes from our current North Node in Libra and the tone of the hostess of this party who may be called in to redirect the group from tense conversations and instead steer them toward less confrontational speak. This can be done delicately or more forcefully depending on the situation. And, it will largely depend on the situation and the demeanor of the hostess.
The key to managing this on a personal level depends on one's ability to remain well grounded and to convert the lightning bolts of Uranus from shocking or surprising (which kicks in our fight or flight responses) into smooth pure blue energy. That calls for rising above personal emotional reactions. Just so happens, that is a special talent of Aquarius and there is plenty of this sign's energy swirling around in the air. But, met from an ungrounded and “itchy” platform, it can certainly cause the negative potential of this energy to manifest. So, enter into gatherings with a bit of detached interest and give things time to unfurl before you spontaneously react to them. Those few moments it takes to catch your breath and slow your heart rate before responding to stimuli are key in successfully navigating the lightning bolts that Uranus hurls.

Don't take things too personally and use conversations as tools for study as if you were an only an observer taking notes for scientific study. Don't become overly emotionally invested. Give people space to express themselves and refrain from being too judgmental...though that last part may be difficult since Mercury in Capricorn can certainly judge with the best of them. But, this can be accomplished. Contribute your 2 cents but don't forget to listen with an open mind giving equal podium time to all. Nobody is really going to be in the mood for wild emotional displays. So, don't make any. Save those for the Pisces Moon coming in tomorrow and trickling all the way into Saturday morning.

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 23, 2014

This morning we wake up to a Void Moon in Capricorn. She remains Void for nearly the entire day until entering Aquarius at 9:53 PM. By 9:57 PM, she is in sextile to Saturn newly in Sagittarius.

This is not a day for starting new things. But, more of a day for finishing things up or simply just resting. The lights are off on the Moon. She is napping. I don't blame her. We should probably follow her lead and nap a little too. Listen to a little holiday music. Roast some chestnuts. Drink a little egg nog. Use this “pause” to stop and enjoy the season.

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 22, 2014

This morning we wake up to a slightly softened Capricorn Moon just leaving a sextile with Neptune at 5:02 AM. By 10:58 AM, though, we are talking shop under a Moon/Mercury conjunction. Business speak. Potentially emotionally fueled business speak. Perhaps a little crossing of the line between home business and work business. Maybe Dad calls you to talk about the last minute shopping he has to do while you are at work.

I'm usually wildly entertained by Mercury in Capricorn. It is so serious and my Mercury in the 9th and Jupiter in Capricorn finds this hilarious. However, others may have a different reaction to the dry and sometimes heavy pontifications of this placement. It pulls no punches and it has a tendency to lay things out bluntly. That being said the conjunction from the Moon to Mercury could bring forth an upsetting conversation, too. Maybe something is said at work that bothers you. Perhaps Mercury in Capricorn's message is felt harshly. Either way, there is a chance of the conversations from this morning catalyzing stronger reactions later. Or, the stronger emotional potential this evening could have nothing to do with what you talked about earlier today. It's apparent, though, that the mood goes from chatty to at least a bit shocked by dinner time.

By 5:17 PM, right around quitting time, the Moon finds Uranus by square. Shortly after, she finds Pluto by conjunction (5:45 PM). By 6:49 PM, she is in sextile to Chiron in Pisces. Maybe the mailman (Mercury in Capricorn) brings a package or letter to your home (Moon) and you don't find it until after you get done with work and that catalyzes feelings of both surprise (Uranus) and a deep feeling of indebtedness (Pluto) to the gift sender. Yeah, that scenario certainly fits. Coming home to an early gift could be a positive expression of this energy. Hey! Maybe that new car Venus splurged on over the weekend is ready for pick up today! That fits too. Maybe those last minute gifts you ordered from Amazon have arrived. Maybe your Christmas bonus comes today! Why am I getting flashes of Clark Griswold's boss being kidnapped? That kind of fits too. So does Santa going to jail for breaking and entering with Saturn in Sagittairus over Christmas..but...you know

Either way, good news or bad news, it all works out in the end as the Moon finds Venus in Capricorn by conjunction at 10:18 PM. Harsher edges are smoothed over and we work to soothe our potentially restless nerves. We enjoy some of the fruits of our labor and relax.

From the conjunction with Venus, the Moon is Void for nearly 24 hours until entering Aquarius at 9:53 PM tomorrow night. This gives us time to take a break from any high emotions that may spark today. In the meantime, Saturn slips over into Sagittarius at 11:36 AM tomorrow. If you need to embark on a gift wrapping frenzy, tomorrow would be the day to get that taken care of. It's great for finishing up the last minute details of your holiday plans. It's also a good day to just take a break from all of that. We've not had a long VOC period like this for quite some time. It's likely going to be nice to have a bit of a break.

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 21, 2014

This morning we wake up to the last action of our Sagittarius Moon. At 7:35 AM she meets Jupiter by trine prior to reaching Void status. This is it, folks. Sagittarius season is coming to a close today. And, it closes with the Moon checking in with Sagittarius' ruler, Jupiter. It also leaves us with plenty of space (during the VOC period) to contemplate what new effort will be on the agenda for Capricorn season and the year to come. The Sun moves into Capricorn at 6:03 PM.

The Moon remains Void until entering Capricorn at 8:26 PM tonight. Then, we are immediately met with our New Moon in Capricorn perfecting at 0 degrees (and 6 minutes) at 8:36 PM. If you are the type that likes to set New Year's resolutions, THIS is the Moon to use to do that. Again, I don't recommend doing this on New Year's Eve. Do it at this New Moon or the Aquarius New Moon (January 20) depending on the nature of your resolutions.

While the Moon is Void, Uranus turns direct at 4:15 PM. We may not feel the effects of this as it occurs. But, by the time the Full Moon in Cancer gets here we will be fully aware that the Lord of Chaos is moving forward. We will be hyper aware of that fact throughout Aquarius season in January. So, if you don't know the Lightning God by now, prepare to get to know him while anticipating how his energy works in your life and the best way to handle it. In the mundane, look for tech glitches (Internet funkiness, computer problems, airplane travel glitches, random monkey wrenches being thrown into machinery, etc). Yep, good time to update your spyware and such...just ask Sony.

What I find particularly interesting about this New Moon is the interplay going on between the Sun/Moon and their current ruler, Saturn. This New Moon finds Saturn by semi-sextile at the 29th degree of Scorpio. Saturn jumps into Sagittarius, officially, on December 23rd. But, this New Moon calls for us to pull ourselves forward with what Saturn in Scorpio has taught us. We have a new base of knowledge to draw from after this transit. It's highly indicated that we start employing those lessons now while also anticipating what may be brought forth from Saturn's passage into Sagittarius.

What is really interesting about all of that is that Uranus and Saturn are like antagonistic relatives and they are both making MAJOR movements right now. Saturn maintains the status quo, provides stability, boundaries, discipline and solid ground to stand on. Uranus works in constant flux which is interesting because, in reality, change is the only constant. This is a fact that forever links these two planets, you know? Saturn makes rules and the constant evolution of Uranus continually challenges those rules. Plus, we are entering into a two month season that in Astrology is traditionally ruled by Saturn. But, that energy does definitely shift in how it is felt between Capricorn and Aquarius season. Yet, they are still related. Don't forget that while Saturn is in Sagittarius he will work harmoniously by trine with Uranus in Aries. That will come into play after Saturn squares off with Neptune, though. That will bring forth our first set of challenges. Some foundations will be washed away at that time and we will use the ingenuity and inventiveness of Uranus to assist us in building new foundations.

All that being said, it's hard to deny that large masses of people have undergone tremendous change over the past year. In light of that change, we are called to adapt. And, we make those declarations and set new rules and boundaries forward at this New Moon. We don't know it all yet. But, we now what has changed. We are NEW leaders at the absolute earliest degrees of the leadership sign. So, we will need to leave room for growth and mindful of future calls for adjustment while setting intentions or yearly goals.

So, as the lights go off on the Moon, Uranus turns direct and we approach the New Moon in Capricorn take some time to consider how you will manage your life in light of all this change. Then, step forward into that authority position of your life and direct as appropriate. Be prepared to present a new personal business model in the year to come that incorporates all these changes. A new personal mission statement. A new plan. A new vision. A new budget. A whole brand new year.

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 20, 2014

There is a myriad of energy swirling in the air today. This morning we wake up to the Moon in Sagittarius leaving a square with Neptune in Pisces. Hopefully that produced a night of deep sleep and rest for most. We also wake up under the umbrella of Mercury sextile Neptune. This energy will hang throughout the day having perfected at 4:31 AM. Both of these Neptune aspects in our early morning hours may make for a slow wake up. It's Saturday. Sounds like a good day to sleep in a little to me!

The feeling of grog may hang with us until late morning. But, the fog does burn off.

By Noon, Venus is certainly awake as she bumps into Uranus by square (12:09 PM). Later, she will meet Pluto by conjunction at 4:07 PM. Venus in Capricorn is pretty steadfast. She is responsible with her resources and enjoys leading others. She appreciates boundaries, effective leadership, a strong work ethic, maturity and tradition. In square to Uranus, some of the things that Venus appreciates may be perceived as unusual, unconventional, futuristic or progressive. Plus, it gives Venus an impulsive and itchy trigger finger.

What I mean by that is, while in square to Uranus in Aries, Venus in Capricorn may become resistant to some of the things that she used to enjoy. She will be resistant to being incumbered or held back. She may suddenly break ties in relationships that make her feel that way. She may desire freedom and change. Or, at the very least, she may be enticed to spend some of her budgeted money on a new techy gadget. New computer? New software? Whatever it is, she wants it pretty badly as she is also closing in on a potentially obsessed conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn. This is more than just impulse. This is craving accompanied with impulse. Venus may decide that what she wants is worth (Venus) going into debt (Pluto) over. Sexy new car perhaps?

But, of course, you know if we are talking about Venus we are not only talking about an impact upon our money but also an impact upon our relationships. For example, Venus may suddenly break from relationships that are dead, cumbersome, abusive or otherwise co-dependent. Today may provide just the push for that and it could play out in surprising ways. OR, these same aspects could revitalize a relationship that has been formerly lifeless. Either way, the desires fostered from these aspects are strong. Once Venus has decided what it is she wants, there won't be much chance of changing her mind. She's an independent leader with pioneer energy who has the strength of Pluto backing her. She is strong, forward thinking and she has a plan. Important decisions around money and relationships are likely to be made. It's also important to note that while Venus is squaring off with Uranus and snuggling up to Pluto, all these bodies are also within orb of our current Nodal axis. Only 4 degrees separate this from being a perfect Cardinal Cross.

Our nodal axis moves backward. Meaning it is at 16 degrees Libra/Aries today. From here, it will move to 15, 14, etc. Pluto and Uranus are each at 12 degrees. When Uranus turns direct, each of these planets will be moving in to form that Cardinal Cross with the nodes. Venus' movements in the next few days will link the perfection of that cross up early bringing more effect to our relationships and tickling the threads of our future. FYI, Pluto in Capricorn and the nodal axis both hang at 13 degrees Capricorn from January 9 all the way to January 25th. Uranus is at 12 degrees during those days. Is that tight enough for you? If not, Uranus hits 13 degrees on January 23rd and joins this little party with only a few minutes separation. Talk about wide sweeping change. It actually makes wonderful sense considering we will be in Aquarius season by that time. Our New Moon in Aquarius occurs on January 20th. Mercury and Venus will both be in Aquarius at that time. Mars will have just jumped ship for Pisces. Venus' movements today will likely kickstart things that will foster new beginnings and new paths forward at that time.

The thing of it is, Mercury is still in sextile to Neptune. Thinking may be skewed, confused, idealistic or we may be missing some key elements of truth. In light of that, before you let Venus take off on a spontaneous breaking ties spree, make sure that's really what she wants. Ground. Move smartly while being mindful of your future. BUT, if you want OUT, the door swings wide open for you today.

The ability to move smartly and wisely IS with us as the Sagittarius Moon finds Mars in Aquarius by sextile at 2:24 PM. This occurs at 12 degrees and shelters Venus's conjunction with Pluto on either side. Wow. Talk about a push to move forward with change. It is certainly present. Especially since Uranus is preparing to turn direct on the 21st. As a planet quivers in station, immediately before or at the end of a retrograde period, it's energy is heightened, stronger and more prevalent. Stock market and financial happenings may be an interesting thing to check in with come Monday morning. We may even see a few rogue bank robberies or internet security breaches as a result of this on a global level too.

And, you know what? We aren't even done with all the aspects of the day. At 4:22 PM, the Moon squares off with Chiron in Pisces. There's that damn consciousness again. It's going to hold us emotionally accountable for any damage we may cause with this impulsive Uranian influx. So don't do anything you are likely to kick your own ass over later. But know that by tonight, those lightning bolts will come back prompting us to physically move quickly at 10:47 PM with a sextile from Mars in Aquarius to his current ruler (the two are also in mutual reception) Uranus in Aries.

Uranus is hovering near the SN in Aries. He is in semi-sextile to Chiron in Pisces. Chiron in Pisces is in semi-sextile to Mars in Aquarius. Mars in Aquarius is in semi-sextile to Venus and Pluto in Capricorn. Venus and Pluto are in semi-sextile to the Moon. And, in between that train, Mercury in Capricorn is in sextile to Neptune in Pisces. Uranus is pulling that entire train forward and the true task at hand is pulling out what we've learned about ourselves and using that to catalyze new methods of operations that will ultimately affect the future of our relationships, the ways in which we partner and potentially forge new collaborations between forward thinking individuals. Uranus is not only the rebel. He is also gatherings of people with common interests who build networks and share resources through friendly and cooperative bonds also known as communities.

Change and evolution are happening. New groups are forming and new alliances will be made while old ones are discarded. New approaches to ALL the things are being fostered. And, in light of all this change, we will be called to re-define boundaries, make new rules, set forth new plans for the future and new leaders within these newly fostered communities/networks will emerge. Kinda perfect given the fact that we also have a New Moon in Capricorn coming, eh? You reckon the Universe set it up like that on purpose?

Personally, I like the sound of this. But, I would. I am, afterall, a Shock Therapist. I think there is wonderful potential here if you can wrangle yourself away from obsession, powerlust and rash impulsiveness. That is harder than it sounds. But, if you can rise above that......wow. Then, tremendous power is at your disposal to use in an effort to embark upon a more liberated and independent future that leaves plenty of room for POSITIVE change. However, if you are still clawing to the status quo and wishing that things would just go back to the way they were, then, you are likely out of luck. Upgrades are being downloaded into our psyches right now. Change is not only imminent, it's here, man. If you checked in with your personal reality under Moon/Saturn yesterday, then, you know this. It's all change all the time and your ability to deal with that will determine exactly how effectively you can greet this day and many of the days to come.

Morning Star: Daily Astrology for December 19, 2014

This morning we wake up to the Scorpio Moon waxing toward a conjunction with Saturn in Scorpio. If I were using non-astrology speak, I would say, “Good morning! I hope you have a great day! HEY! Watch out for those falling bricks!”

You know, I've been thinking about 2014 and what it has taught me. 2014 has shown me exactly how tough I am, how resourceful and has proven to me that I can most certainly take care of myself. I've learned that I can divert myself from self-destruction. I've also discovered HUGE masses of gunk in the underbelly of my psyche that I didn't realize were there. For the last 4 years, Saturn has been working diligently to show me what an asshole I can be. Seriously. On top of that, he has also shown me where those asshole tendencies originate...or WHY I can be such an asshole at times. It was horrible. Painful. Because, while I was inclined to berate myself for being a jerk, some of those memories that bubbled up having formed those masses of gunk in the underbelly of my psyche gave rational cause to some of my less savory behaviors. I had to look at each memory and then evaluate my actions in response to what happened to me and decide, “Ok. Do I want to continue to allow this to affect my life? Or, do I want to let go of it for good in an effort to be better, stronger, more compassionate and more conscious?” This was anything but easy. And, surprisingly, there were some pains that played a part in shaping me that were really hard to revisit and even harder to let go of. It was like cutting of a body part in some instances. The pain, the experience, had not only become something that happened to me. It was more than just a memory. It was a PART of me. Plus, becoming conscious of these things didn't make them magically disappear. I had to accept that some things cannot be undone and all I could do in light of that is to move forward with new awareness in an effort to be better while nurturing and forgiving myself along the way.

At the same time, I have learned to appreciate the moment. Present time was something that often slipped past me when I was trapped in the past or fretting about the future. I've learned to not be in a such a hurry. I've learned that “right now” is just as important as “back then” and “tomorrow.”

I've also grown from a boundaryless wank into someone who is hyper aware of codependent behavior and emotional manipulation tactics. This has had a huge impact upon my relationships and even worked to break some of them apart. I've learned to build emotional boundaries through an extended transit of Saturn in trine to my Pisces Moon. I'll use that knowledge to help me deal with Saturn in square to my Moon from Sagittarius in the year to come. The lessons I've tucked under my belt from the last year, which built upon Saturn's lessons from previous years, will serve me well in the future. I'm definitely not prone to undo all the work I've done thus far. I've freaking earned my Saturn belt, man. I'm going to use it.
Personally I'm tired of holding the line. When does the time come when we can misbehave? Wake me up then.

Our Scorpio Moon meets Saturn today at 4:12 PM. That aspect does NOT scream “YAY! PARTY TIME!” by any means. However it is not new energy either. The Moon meets Saturn by conjunction once a month, every month, no matter where Saturn is lodged. Just so happens, today he is lodged at the 29th degree of Scorpio. From this point, Saturn expects us to know all about those thick calluses that steer our behavior. He expects us to move more wisely and responsibly in light of that knowledge. And, he is going to come back and test these degrees again in 2015. We will likely re-visit a lot of events happening now during his retrograde next summer both in our personal world and in the world at large. The discussions about torture, police actions, protests, sexual abuse, hidden prejudice, abuses of others based on sex, race or belief...ALL OF THIS and probably more will likely bubble back up and be assessed by the public and on a personal level again when Saturn comes back. Know that what you are dealing with on a personal level will likely be felt via reverberation during that retrograde, too, making the actions we take in light of those personal situations quite imperative.

As the Moon conjuncts Saturn today, it is an excellent time to do a realistic assessment of where you are, how you got there and exactly what is the best thing to do in response to maintain a sense of integrity and responsibility not only within the framework of our lives but also within the role we play upon the world's stage. It's a time to be mindful of our legacy. Tread slowly, carefully and consciously while making sure the decisions we make are based in rebuilding a more solid foundation in place of the foundations that have been irrevocably washed away. Ironically, a fortune cookie I received a few weeks ago sums this up quite succinctly. It said, “Let reality be reality.” And, yep, there you go.

On a mundane level, today could feel a lot like wading through mud until after the conjunction with Saturn in which the Moon reaches Void status before entering Sagittarius about 45 minutes later. By 5 PM tonight, we are ready to stop trudging. We could find ourselves physically tired, mentally strained and completely DONE with this day by then. Our bulldozers are out of gas, basically. This evening offers opportunity to lay down our tools to rest, recuperate and deal with the emotions that were put aside while we were working on excavations. Our Sagittarius Moon squares off with Neptune overnight (1:57 AM) while Mercury sextiles Neptune early in the morning (4:31 AM). Our island of Moon/Saturn becomes awash as the tides begin to rise.

This can play out literally through wet weather be it rain, snow, ice, sleet or even just fog. It can also be a personal watershed in which we should take efforts to nurture ourselves through because nurturing (Moon) from the outside world may be non-existent (Neptune). Much is likely to be processed in our dreams tonight so pay attention to the symbolism. At the same time, watch for those who try to put a glaze on the truth under Mercury/Neptune particularly those in leadership positions. There will be attempts to assuage the public's reaction to some of these worldly happenings with assertions that things have been blown out of proportion or that they are not as bad as we think they are. Remember that some folks in leadership positions are on a slippery slope right now and they are going to do everything possible to sink their claws into what little bit of power still remains. Be wary of that and don't be one of those people who does something underhandedly desperate at the same time. If you do, it is likely to come back to bite you. The temptation will likely be there. Some will give in to it. But, the strongest will maintain their integrity and boundaries regardless of what craziness occurs. Then, those with true strength will get themselves to a safe place to deal with the emotions at hand and repair what has been broken.

This all happens rather quietly and on a very personal level. It's highly unlikely that anyone will want to speak openly about what is roiling inside of them because they've not yet made complete sense of it themselves. Personal intensity is rising and there will be some expulsions and explosions in the days to come in light of that. So, today, trudge through what you must trudge through. Then, effectively deal with the softer parts of yourself so that you are on solid ground when this intensity peaks...because it hasn't yet. It will certainly be here for the holidays, though.

Tomorrow, Venus knocks up against Pluto and Uranus which is likely to kick things in all kinds of directions as we climb out of our current swamp. Deal with your personal lunacy tonight in an effort to be well prepared for that.
