Morning Star: Daily Astrology for October 12, 2014

This morning we wake up to a busy Moon in Gemini. Most of the day the Moon is wonderfully supported. But, there is a square with Chiron in Pisces (1:11 PM) to contend with first. This can manifest as a need to be social versus a need to stay home and recuperate from an illness. Externally it could equate to the social butterfly butting heads against someone who is heartsick and wants to hear nothing about re-entering the social arena.

After the square to Chiron perfects, the Moon is lifted up by the Fire and Air elements in the sky. She spends most of the day in a Grand Air Trine with Sun/Venus in Libra and Sappho/Psyche in Aquarius. She is also lifted up by mutual sextiles to Jupiter in Leo and Uranus in Aries while opposing Mars in Sagittarius. This creates a kite with the Moon at the apex in the later hours of today.

The Fire Trine is still in effect with only 4 degrees separating Mars from Uranus and 3 degrees separating Mars from Jupiter.

The combination of Air and Fire in the sky today bring an atmosphere of lightness and activity. It would be a great evening to spend with friends enjoying a movie, music or sporting event. Not many will want to talk of deep subjects or world events. People will likely want to just have a good time and relax.

Also with the Fire and Air in play, it would be an excellent night for a revival whether you spend it at a local church or have your own right in your own home. Air/Fire can whip Spirit right up through prayer. Therefore, it is an excellent night for meditation, bonfires (carefully contained) and, my favorite, dancing into delirium under a waning Moon. The basic indication here is is to get out and shake some of the dust off. Tides of emotion will rise again when the Moon enters Cancer tomorrow night.

The Air trine involving Venus/Sun, Psyche/Sappho and the Moon is particularly interesting. Currently Psyche and Sappho are conjunct in Aquarius between 9 and 10 degrees. These two will remain within orb of a conjunction all the way through the rest of October. According to Demetra George's book Asteroid Goddesses, Psyche and Sappho are transformers of Venus. They assist Venus to reach out toward the principles of her higher octave, Neptune.

According to George, Psyche is one half of a pair of Minor Asteroids. Her partner is Eros. Together they represent the polarity of The Lovers. Sappho is also one half of a pair with the other half being Amor. This pair represents the polarity of Empaths. It does appear that the Psyche and Sappho are working together right now. However, their partners are in a tight square from Capricorn (Eros) to Libra (Amor). Venus has had interplay with all four of them in our recent history. Her orb of contact with them is now waning.

George describes Psyche as “the higher expression of Venus, expressing a refinement of personal love and psychic attunement to another. Through following the path of Psyche, conscious relationship provides a path to spiritual illumination.” Please notice that she cites CONSCIOUS relationship not haphazard.

Sappho is described as a “capacity for romantic and and artistic sensitivity.” George slates Sappho as “a poetess who, while living on the island of Lesbos, presided over a woman's academy of fine arts where she composed love poetry and lyrical verse.” Sappho wrote of the “intimate, personal feelings of yearning, desolation, jealousy and rapture.” George goes on to say, “Sappho taught of the need to love both men and women and to honor the healing power of love in whatever form it presents itself.”

Sappho puts no moral judgment on love. And, that kind of made her unpopular with people who DO put moral judgment on love and believe that relationships should be beholden to certain rules (monogamy, marriage = man + woman only, and so forth). Sappho, however, maintains that the heart wants what the heart wants and no one should be restricted from it. I'm inclined to agree with her.

Together, Psyche and Sappho bring an air of sensuality, knowing, and refinement to the sign of Aquarius. With Sun/Venus lodged in the sign of partnering, this could bring wonderful ideations about the concept of love. Reading about it, talking about it, pining over it, yearning for it and aaaaaaaaaah, well, you know, it IS Libra Season. AKA that time of year where we get all swept up in finding someone to hibernate with in the Northern Hemisphere or get twitterpated with in anticipation of Spring in the Southern Hemisphere. All the while, we are in love with the idea of love never realizing how messy things can get until we move into Scorpio season. Yeah. It's a lot like that.

Oh, let your heart flutter a bit. I just can't advise you not too as I can certainly think of worse distractions. Just don't let the lingering square between Venus and Pluto prompt you to get all stalkerish with it.
