Collective Symbolism--Horse

With my natal Mercury in Scorpio, I'm very interested in studying the history of collective symbolism. I also notice trends in current symbolism.

This year, in Chinese Astrology, is the year of the Green Wood Horse.

I immediately connected horses with Uranus in Aries. But, after further study of their meaning and reference, I was actually more inclined to link them to the whole of the current sky.

At first, when I saw the horse, I thought of the fire element and their relation to war. This is what brought me to Uranus in Aries. The wild unbridled spirit and connotations of freedom that accompany the horse also refer to rebellious Uranus (first reference to air) in the sign of the Warrior.

In Celtic symbolism, the horse is immediately associated with war. To the Celts, horses were owned by the Sun God and given to the Goddess Epona.

Everything that is associated with war, therefore, can also be associated with the horse including victory, conquering, acquiring territory but also death, destruction, and power (for good or ill).
Romans would sacrifice a horse to Mars once a year while keeping its tail to reference fertility and rebirth.

The talk of war, death, destruction, rebirth, brings in talk of Pluto and Scorpio. Pluto, being the higher octave of mars embodies all of these characteristics. With the mutual reception of Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn in Scorpio, it becomes even easier to tie the horse to the Earth element while incorporating the first reference to Water through Scorpio.

The horse has been used on farms and in agriculture while being associated with the raising of cattle. You just were not a cowboy without a horse. This brings in further reference to Earth and Capricorn. It even incorporates the Moon/Cancer, as nurturing is definitely involved with any type of agriculture.

Whether the reference is to soldiers, cowboys or the common man, horses were used as a primary source of transportation, be it through pulling a carriage or simply by riding on horseback. This is one way Air is tied to the equation. Short trips would be Mercurial in nature but I'm more inclined to tie them to longer travel. They were also considered exotic as different cultures encountered the various breeds. This brings Jupiter, which is currently transiting Cancer and will pass into fiery Leo near the middle of the year.

However, travel and their exotic international link are not the only factors tying the horse to Jupiter. Sagittarius, which is Jupiter ruled, is also a centaur---half human and half horse.

The centaur reference also brings in Chiron who is currently transiting Pisces. But, this isn't the only water associated with the horse. In Greek philosophy, it is said that the God of the Sea, Poseidon, actually created the horse in an attempt to impress Demeter. I've also read that Poseidon devoted this creature to Hades and Ares, again giving reference to Pluto, Scorpio, Mars and the sign of Aries. The crashing sound of waves can be reminiscent of thundering horses and with the reference to Poseidon and the Sea, the link to Neptune cannot be ignored.

Native Americans tied the horse to their spiritual practices which further strengthens ties to Neptune. They also believed that the horse was a direct communicator with the whispers of wisdom found in the spirit winds.
Horse symbolism can be found throughout various religions from the Bible to the Tarot. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, of course, reference horses associating them with death, revelation, power, rebirth. “And I looked, and behold a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given to them over the fourth part of the the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger and with death, and with the beasts of the earth,” as quoted from Revelation 6:8.

In Tarot, the Knights of Fire, Earth, Air and Water are all seen upon horseback. The black and white horses of the Chariot represent the pull of opposite forces with the possibility of mastering their direction. Death, Tarot 13, rides a pale horse.

Of course, the gifting and sacrificing of horses would be a nod to Venus (gifting) and Neptune (sacrifice/martyrdom—and the higher octave of Venus).

Further, horses are mentioned in the tablets of Elam and in Chinese astrology. In fact, the Chinese associate the horse with Gemini (Mercury), strength(Saturn), power (Pluto), vanity (Venus), war (Mars), chivalry (Venus), practicality (Saturn), love (Venus/Neptune), endurance (Saturn), devotion (Saturn/Vesta) and stability (Saturn).

Truly, horses are a powerful collective symbol. And, given our current astrological patterns, we are being forced to “live in the moment” and employ all the gifts or our horse guides.

New Moon in Aquarius 2014-When you wish upon a star

The New Moon in Aquarius occurs on January 30, 2014. It is the second New Moon of the month (which doesn't happen often).
The Moon meets up with the Sun at 10 degrees 55 minutes of Aquarius bringing it just past a sextile with Uranus in Aries (Aquarius' modern ruler), into a semi-sextile with Pluto and Venus RX in Capricorn, inconjunct Jupiter in Cancer and inconjunct Pallas in Virgo.

What we want is highly accentuated with this New Moon as well as how we plan (Capricorn) to go about getting it due to the very close proximity of Venus and Pluto along with their subsequent opposition to Jupiter.
Venus has been retrograde for quite some time (since Dec. 21) and you may have found some stumbling blocks in the way of money, self-worth, value and relationships. Believe it or not, it is a good thing that you have discovered these. Discovery brings awareness. And, even though that awareness may have tripped you in the interim, it does enable you to adjust your plan accordingly so you can be successful.
That being said, Mercury is stationing retrograde (officially RX Feb 6) and on the heels of that Mars will begin retrograde on March 1 until May 19. Prepare for more roadblocks and probably some frustration. Prepare to find out if what you want to do is really worth the effort you will have to put in. Prepare to have to make adjustments again.
You can find out more about my thoughts on Mars RX here.
At any rate, now that I've discussed what's coming, let me bring you back to current time with the upcoming New Moon in Aquarius.
New Moons are wonderful for setting intentions. And, if you would like to learn more about what that means, please be sure to join Dixie and I on our third Woo-Woo Wonderful show which will discuss that at length. (Ha, I just bopped off into the future on you again, didn't I?)

Backing up again, let's look at what Aquarius represents. Freedom comes to mind first especially since Uranus is currently transiting Aries. Mars/Uranus contacts always bring to mind a drive for independence for me. Also, uniqueness, the collective body, individuality and general quirkiness. But, there is so much more to it. Uranus also rules the 11th house in Astrology. The 11th house is about many things as well. I've decided to bring my focus for intention setting to the fact that the 11th house rules wishes.

Star-Legacy of the Divine
Ciro Marchetti

The Star card in Tarot does represent Aquarius. And, you know what they say, "When you wish upon a star..."

To honor that, I decided to create Wishing Powder to seal my intentions for the New Moon. Why not?! You can purchase Wishing Powders from various metaphysical and witchcraft shops. But, I decided to make my own.

Contents:
Beach Sand
Talc
Cinnamon
Silver Glitter

I used beach sand because I received some as a gift from my sister-in-law. Already, because it was a gift, it was charged with good mojo. But, beach sand also contains ground up quartz and dried sea salt. Quartz is programmable and sea salt neutralizes negative energy. Talc was primarily used to keep all the ingredients from sticking together. Cinnamon was used because it has the metaphysical property of empowering. Silver Glitter was used because it's sparkly (like Stars) and because I like it, ok?

I charged all these ingredients and made some Moon Water under our last Full Moon in Cancer.

I bought little bottles for my wishing powders at a local craft store. Then, I washed them in the Moon Water. All of the ingredients were mixed in a wooden bowl with a Willow Tree branch then poured into the dried bottles.

Then, I bought some cute little decorations to pretty them up. I placed word stickers on the bottles. They say "love" "create" "dream" "believe" to reinforce all the wishes that may be made. I had a lot of fun with this. And, I think they turned out rather nicely.

My point is, we have some weather coming up that is going to trip us up. Why not use the sparkly energy of Aquarius for making a few wishes as intentions to help us along the way. What we put out there right now as what we "want" has power with Venus and Pluto so close to one another. Venus/Pluto is a powerful attractor and in opposition to Jupiter, that is expanded. Why not put that to good use. However, as a caution, and like I tell anyone I read for with a strong Venus/Pluto signature, be careful where you point that stuff! And, no, you don't need wishing powder for this. But, feel free to concoct your own if you like. Otherwise, WISH, LOVE, DREAM, CREATE and BELIEVE.

She Cries

Over the summer, I was given a writing assignment. It specified to give a "sense of place" related to where I live. I can only imagine that others assigned this may have chosen to celebrate local attractions and little known facts. I contemplated writing about the serpent mounds..but settled on giving my rather sad rendition of the true sense of place.
I live in the Ohio Valley. And, if  you haven't read about us on the news lately, here's a bit that occured recently.

She cries. Can you hear her?

She was once alive with laughter and abundance. Now, her truth is raped and abused by the very people she once fed.

She's been invaded by a self-exterminating pestilence. It threatens to take her too.

She is still powerful; but, she is sick. She is helpless and hopeless.

The change in her demeanor is reflected on the faces of the people who surround her. Her disease spreads.

Her community is unhealthy, obese, greedy and corrupt. Her solace is no longer sought. Her children are dying.

I've been warned not to touch her as if she were a leper. I've been told, "Do not take what she has to offer. She is nothing now. You have no idea what lurks beneath her glittering facade."

Once, there was a community that loved her. They took nothing from her that they were not able to return. These children are gone. They have been replaced by the unfortunate offspring of greed and corruption.

I can see her former promise. I will not leave her. She begs me to help her heal.

She asks, "Who will help you?" I have no answer.

We pray together as if she were my own mother approaching her death.

She is the Ohio River the largest tributary to Mississippi. She echoes the cries of all that flow into her. She carries sorrow with her leaving traces of her rotten guts on the blackened and littered banks.

The sun still rises at her head and sets at her feet. Yet, any hope she may have left is overshadowed by the tumors that have grown along her body.

Chemical plants dump waste on her breast. Petroleum refineries pollute her shores. Drug lords stash evidence in her pockets. Murderers place their victims like barrettes in her hair.

Why can't she be heard? Has everyone stopped listening? Have we been deafened by our own melodies made on behalf of "the dream"?

What dream is this? She awakens in hideously nightmarish gray fog only to fall asleep again on a pallet of garbage.

She beckons for me not to leave. I will not go; though, many do not understand why. "Leave this!" They say, "There is nothing left to profit from here."

My answer is, "To go where? What is left to destroy?" She is my birthright. She doesn't truly belong to those who have ruined her. We will cry together.

The Plan

Did you set an intention for the New Year and the New Moon in Capricorn? Are you wondering how you can get from point A (your intention) to your destination?

I can help.

I'm doing a new set of readings called, "The Plan." This is a month by month directive that is aimed at helping you to achieve your goals for 2014. You decide how many months you would like to look forward. Then, you receive the planetary movements for the month along with personalized information about how these impact your natal chart and how to work with them, a Tarot card for the direction you need to move forward and insight about your personal lunar movements for the month (ie: Lunar Return).

Each month is $30 and is concise and to the point but packed with personalized information in an effort to help you achieve your goals.

I've completed several of these leading up to the New Year for previous clients and am already receiving feedback in regard to progress.

If you have not set an intention for the New Moon or for the New Year, it's ok! We can start where you are and move from there. I will work with you 1 to 1 to help you frame your intention and work toward success.

Each reading involves a pre-reading counseling session. This can be done by email or by phone. I will be adding SKYPE consults in the very near future. In this session, we discuss your goal and your current situation. I get a "feel" of where you are coming from and how you operate. Then, I move forward with your reading. Turn around time is approximately 2 days (depending on how many of these I'm doing at once) but I will give you a date to expect your reading after our initial consultation.

To order click the link above for Tarot, Astrology and Intuitive Readings. Then, go to the drop down menu for "Love Offerings". Choose 3 Card Tarot/Astrology and pay the amount equal to the number of months you would like included in "The Plan." Once I receive your order, I will contact you via the email address you provide for your pre-reading counseling session.

The Plan:

Pre-reading counseling session via email or phone

Directions for:
1 month = $30
2 months = $60
3 months = $90
